In early 2020 I created an accent to represent the first ever recorded Object Head. A painting by Salvador Dali titled, "Woman with a Head of Roses". I can't remember exactly when my love for object heads began, but they have been a source of comfort for as long as I've known of them. They are surreal and can become complex and personal from the choice of object alone. Without faces, it is much harder for the average observer to have an immediate understanding of what the Object Head is thinking or expressing. They are forced to read into body language or expressions that are not immediately understood due to the lack of facial expressions. Many children took comfort in stuffed toys or Disney movies growing up, but I don't think it is farfetched to say that many kids took solace in the items and appliances around them. An oven used to help bake cookies on Saturday mornings. Leftover cardboard helped build a fort for you to play in. A small lightbulb kept the dark away just long enough for you to fall asleep. And let's be honest, The Brave Little Toaster did not help any of our cases. The fandom for Object Heads is still incredibly niche, but not nearly as much as it used to. I think as time goes on and more are introduced to the concept, they find that Objects Heads are an interesting subject to explore and express themselves with. Many beginners often take to TV heads first since it is very easy to give the screens a standard face that they are more familiar with. But, as their understanding and interest develops, they usually become more comfortable in using body language and items that express increasingly complex ideas. |
