‹━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━«
Life is not kind. It may start out nice and sweet, but it always had one or two or even more nasty turns for one in its hands, was just waiting, lurking for things to fall in place and one to become complacent. Only to show its cold, hard twisted face. Lucius remembered that alley he was walking through. He had been shopping, out shopping silks and jewels, because he could, because his two fathers and his one mother had given him an allowance to spent on things nice and beautiful, just like himself. He was a dream child, really, well behaved, magically gifted and beautiful, just like his sister Melosa. But someone seemed to ignore the fact that he had never done a wrong in his life to anyone, other than simply existing. He existed and that was his sin as the light of Ouroboros suddenly dimmed and turned into blackness and pain. He remembered screaming and his blood drenching the silks he had bought red and heavy and disgusting. The pain was terribly, near on unbearable. And as he laid there dying, bleeding, blind and cut, in the side alley of Ouroboros, his family came running, alarmed by the watchers, they carried him home, because he begged them to bring him home. They brought healer to save him, but no one could save him from what was gone. His eyes, once bright and golden, now red and dull, empty and blind. Scars, all over his body, an angry red that never healed properly. It hurt so much. Even more when the perpetrators were never found, never caught. For months, Lucius hid in his room, never let anyone close enough, because he was ashamed. His beauty, gone, his talent, crippled by a curse lead astray. His eyes, ruined. Talin was furious and sad at the same time, wanted to save his son. But of course he couldn’t. It was Melosa who did it, Melosa who bought golden paint. Gold, because that was Lucius’ favorite color. She painted the scars golden, all over his body. And his pearl, the cracked, damaged pearl of his, she also healed. By turning herself from an Imperial into a pearlcatcher, by spitting murky inky blackness on it, covering his bad memories with better ones from her. She helped, so much. Lucius loved his sister for what she did for him. He slowly found back into life, thanks to his siblings, even if he felt Grigori was less helpful than the others. But he meant well, so Lucius allowed him to say close again, to stay. The church was supposed to be his safe haven after Melosa started to get more involved with the dragons from the wing of coin and their mother’s business. But it wasn’t save, not even with awkward, clumsy Grigori visiting him ever so often. The monsters from the rebellion came, they came and dragged him away in a raid, an attempt to hurt the church. If they succeeded in that, Lucius did not knew, he didn’T knew if the High Priest cared enough about one measly, damaged pearlcatcher that used to live among them. He was thrown into a cell, thought the key forgotten but instead, he found someone else opening the door one terrifying day. Eireen. The lost brother, he came, he hugged Lucius and they cried together, about the turns and twists life had thrown at them. And because Lucius was still clueless about everything, about Ouroboros, about Grigori, the Rebellion, everything, he did the one thing he knew how to do. He clung to Eireen. |
