“It is time!” She gave a quick laugh, gathered her items and quickly made her way down the mountainside and into the small clearing where her tent and stage had already been set up. A crowd was already beginning to her gather. She quickly made her way backstage where a table and a gorgeous silver cape lay. She put the cape on and closed her eyes, praying the Shadow Dragon for luck and humor! This was her chance to get into the Clan, to prove herself! She burst through the curtain, only a small crowd peered up at her. Her heart flipped slightly at that, but she kept her composure. “Welcome, Welcome!! To Akaya’s Knickering Knacks!” She tapped a claw on the wood of the stage, a small puppet appearing a green puff of smoke. The Dragons before her gasped slightly at the small figure before them. It waved to them, moving with no strings. “This year, we are celebrating! Celebrating a new era of fun and grandeur!” Small fireworks exploded above their heads. The crowd slowly grew as Akaya wowed them with more and more small tricks. By the time she was halfway through her show, she had five small puppets dancing on the stage. She gave another smile, and as she lifted her head, the puppets began to walk slowly off the stage. The more they moved, the more life-like they became. The crowd grew fixated on these alive puppets, their awestruck faces never noticing that they were taking jewels, jewelry, and other small trinkets off their attire. “Thief!” One Dragon yelled from the back, having just arrived to the party. The crowd shook their heads and looked at the suddenly very pale Circus Mage. “You tried to steal from us?” One Dragon yelled. Others began to yell loudly, advancing to the stage. “Please, it was just a trick! Honest! I was going to give all your items back!” Akaya backed up as they came closer. “How do we know! You tricked us! Mesmerized us!” “It’s all an act!” The crowd grew more rowdy, and Akaya more scared for her life. She really didn’t mean to cause this much commotion. It was just a trick! A way to prove herself! The Dragons were now surrounding her on the stage, she cowered in the middle. “Enough!” A loud boom made everyone jump. A fantastic Dragon came forwards, the Clan Leader no doubt. She held her head high as she walked forwards. “What is going on here?” “This Imperial tried to rob us!” “All of you?” Inquired the leader. The Dragons looked at each other and then nodded. “Yes! With puppets!” The leader looked around at the scene. The puppets had fallen to the ground now, looking like wood and twine. The leader looked at them then at Akaya. She let out a laugh suddenly. “A Circus Mage!” Akaya nodded quickly, “Yes, yes! I was doing tricks!” “Stealing is not a trick, young one. But using puppets to do the stealing is a feat that I have no seen.” Akaya looked at her and then at her puppets. She tapped her claw and the puppets rose. They began to move forwards, turning into their life-like forms again. “Tricks! Thievery!” The crowd began to chant. “Misdirection.” The leader mused. “Something this clan could use. You’re Akaya, are you not. You have been putting on shows here for a few years now. You must be determined.” Akaya nodded. Her heart beginning to beat loudly. The leader nodded, “If you can do more tricks like that,” She motioned towards the puppets. “Then you are welcome in our Clan.” Akaya felt her heart flip with excitement! “Thank you so much! I did not mean to steal, but it was just to show you what I can do! Thank you so so much!” She spoke a thousand words a minute. The leader gave her a look that silenced her, but her body shook with excitement. She did it. She was officially part of the most Magnificent Clan in the Shadow Realm. |
