Kailani had always been a fighter. Even when her body was made of flesh, and she was having babies, the skydancer didn't let anything get in her way. She taught her little ones that anything was possible if you just wanted it enough and worked your tail off to get it.

Unfortunately, not even the most determined attitude can stop the ravages of nature when it truly throws something heinous at you. When Kailani got sick, she was determined to find a way to beat it - even if all the healers she had seen told her it was impossible.

Kailani figured if medicine couldn't help, maybe magic and wild science could give it a go. She was going to die anyway, so why not try something outrageous? So, despite her friends being worried about what would happen, the small, fierce fighter signed up for experiments with an inventor desperate to try a new machine.

When the little dragon came out, she was the same mentally and emotionally... but something else entirely in physical form. Her flesh had been transformed into living metal and glass; the sickness had nothing to hold on to. Kailani was cured, but was something unusual and new.

While there are times the little warrior could wish that there weren't obvious physical differences - because sometimes other dragons react badly to her new body - Kailani is so grateful to be alive. And her new body makes her even more of a threat in the battlefield. Luckily, her heart is still as big as it ever was... even if it does tick instead of beat now.
