"I don't doubt your skill, but...frankly, the allegiance of the Immolator was an advantage I was hoping to keep." Kaiser nodded once. "Are we certain the child is correct? That we are not being tricked?" "As certain as I can be. What reason would she have to lie?" Kaiser could think of many. For as long as you wear this banner, you are Hers and Hers alone. From up here on the balcony, the town that had sprung up seemingly overnight around the tower was visible in its entirety. Kaiser was surprised to learn how many people were willing to abandon all but what they could carry for a chance to live without the Queen's rule. "I intend to continue my service to you, my Lady," Kaiser spoke formally as he bowed down, pressing the tip of his trident into the stone floor. "If you will have me," Origin actually laughed at him. "Oh, don't be silly," Origin smiled. "And stand up. I won't be having you treat me like a queen," Kaiser blinked, and stood slowly. He glanced from side to side once, as though to be certain he was not being tricked. "Of course I still need you, my friend. The world needs people like us," "If you're...certain," He said hesitantly. He bit his tongue to stop himself from saying, 'my lady' again. "What comes next? If there is another Immolator, we may be in danger." You will serve Her until your dying breath. "We are always in danger," Origin said. "We must prepare to defend the town. Boston already has some ideas. I sent her to Echo to see what they could put together." She turned towards the door, and Kaiser followed her inside. "Are you certain we can put our faith in her?" He implored as they entered Origin's study. "We do not know where her loyalties lie." Origin turned to face him. Not a swift or angry motion by any means, but it stopped him in his tracks. She took a step closer, studying him. He cared for her a great deal, but he did not like being...analyzed like this. Her Fire burns within you. You are kindled and reborn. "You knew her before," She said simply. "She told me as much, though I could have easily guessed." Kaiser nodded, and she went on. "Then you tell me, Kaiser. Do you think she would betray us? Do you think her mother sent her here to tear us apart from within?" One day it will kill you, and you will be ash. Kaiser thought for a moment. He knew Boston mostly from the rage she induced in the Queen. Disobedient. Rebellious. A liar and a thief, at times. "It seems...unlikely," He concluded. "There was nothing she despised more than following her mother's orders." Origin wore a satisfied grin. "Then it's decided," She reached out and took Kaiser's hand in hers, looking him straight in the eyes. "I know you don't trust her. But trust me." Kaiser nodded dutifully. Kaiser is dead. Long live the Immolator.
