Biography
Sofin thinks she might have been someone else, once.
Oracles are strange and eccentric by nature, and it would be bizarre if she didn’t have one or two unusual characteristics about her, but this one in particular makes her uncomfortable with herself. Sometimes her own reflection takes her by surprise, and she has intuition and knowledge that a dragon as young as she should never have. Perhaps it’s the hive memory that is supposedly held by the dragons in the terrace who are born into the position of oracle, or maybe it’s the influence of the sprite who raised her from a hatchling, pressing the bird skull onto her head and carefully dyeing each feather in her ensemble to match her markings.
Thankfully, she’s rarely given the chance to linger on this strangeness. An oracle is the closest thing that the terrace has to a single leader, and her responsabilities are many. She must mediate between Thirania, the hotheaded leader of the skydancers, and Theia, the deceptively mild leader of the coatls, as well as attend to any issues raised by the rest of the clan. All matters of the arcane or magical are brought to her, as she is the only dragon who is not consumed with the pursuit of tangible (or “practical” as they all say) knowledge, and it is she who performs the last rights of the dead and keeps vigil over the sick.
She rarely sees her mate, Maelor, whom she is only ever near for the express purpose of someday producing an heir, as she instead lives away from the rest of the clan in a cave at the edge of the ruins, set deep in the side of the mountain. It is both for the solitude for meditation and so she doesn’t disturb the other dragons with her studies and practice of magic, and also so she can tend to Delphine and deliver messages from her to the rest of the clan. Maia, her sprite and mentor, assists in these duties to the best of her abilities, but it’s not entirely sure if Sofin is the one she serves, or if it’s the other way around.
Their choice of headwear makes them appear eerily similar to each other, so who can really tell?
