"Jerk" and "arrogant" may be the words most often used to described Merik, but there's no denying that he deserves his position on the Council of Mages. Not only is he an excellent water mage, but also he is an obsessive a dedicated researcher. His current obsession project is learning more about ice magic. (There was an unfortunate incident involving goblins, ice elementals, the Ice Caves, and the loss of a very important magical staff--Merik is determined not to let history repeat itself, especially in such an embarrassing fashion.)
