Introduction to the Snow

______So a harpy, a tuxedo floracat, and an Imperial walk into a tavern ...

On Thursday evenings after dinner, over by the half-submerged bell tower where the luminous almonds grow on one of many floating gardens, Scripture serenades Moonkeep on the harmonica.

He's spectacularly terrible.

On Fridays it's the lute, and Saturdays the horn, and Sundays his comedy routine. Creedence outright refuses to let Scripture put his claws on the organ in the Great Hall, and he's regarded a clan hero for it.

Scripture has been practicing music for longer than some of his clanmates have been alive and has no right to be half as bad as he is. (Perhaps that's the joke, the Nightmother shrugs when she's begged to intervene, and, well, she is many things, but humorless has never been one of them.) But if tormenting the Fort with harmonica is a coping mechanism for being dead, it's an effective one - Scripture is jolly, charismatic, and quick to put his finger on Moonkeep's pulse, all uncommon characteristics for a ghost.

When he's not butchering sonatas he's tending to living things big and small: Scripture is the foremost groundskeeper, and he not only tends the Fort's many floating raft gardens but maintains the bridges, boardwalks, and hotsprings on Moonkeep's water-level "ground floor" to boot. He does his work with a smile on his face and a pocket full of cherries for the hatchlings, and if you catch him in the right mood, he just might tell you a riddle that has an answer.

- Scripture is the spirit of a Runner who drowned in the swamp trying to navigate his way through the Tangled Wood. He's taken his own death extremely well, but would really like to find his remains because he wants his skull to decorate his room in the Gatehouse. Also so he can make really bad jokes and scare the bejeezus out of hatchlings, probably.
