To my dearest Nebula,


Your mother and I were beyond elated to receive your letter. Your mother has been so worried about you and your sister, but it is to be expected. You are her first hatchlings, it is understandable. She frets at night, and I think it's just her missing having a little one to swaddle. Of course, you're not so little anymore, my dear! My, you're already of age, come to think of it... your mother is lingering nearby, and after verbally mentioning it to her aloud, she is curious as to if you have found a possible suitor in your new home, as it was not mentioned in your letter. I think she's eager to hear of grandchildren... ahem, as far as I am concerned, please, take your time. There's no need to rush.

Speaking of children, I would love to spread the news on to you that your mother is currently busying herself with a new clutch of eggs. She's been so sad watching the other hatchlings arrive... we decided it was about time to settle with another nest of our own. There are three eggs, glistening with the blessings of the stars themselves... they have been shifting about these last few nights. Your mother is anxious to welcome them into the world. Still, I don't imagine any of them will turn out like you. You're the spitting image of your mother. You were beautiful and graceful, even as a hatchling. The rest will just have to accept that they'll take after me, eh? (Your mother claims that is supposed to be a good thing, ha!)

To be honest, I was concerned when our allying Plague clan was the one who wished to take you home. The Plague flight is... well, it's very different from our ways here in the Starfall Isles. Even beneath the Stormcaller, I can't say things were ever quite so... well, I'm sure you understand it more than I do. If you claim that they are kind, then I shall not fret. We have received some good-hearted dragons from that clan, so I assume them to be decent dragons at home, too. Perseus speaks so fondly of his son who was chosen to move to their clan. He considered it an honor, though I think Andromeda was a little less enthused. Still, they have received a grandchild from him, a beautiful female named Soslah. She is a gifted child... or at least they claim she is gifted. She's very quiet, rarely speaks to anyone, and typically hovers close to her grandmother. I don't think I've seen them separate... but she causes no trouble, so I can't say it's a problem. I don't think she'll be attracting a mate anytime soon though.

Lung Tien Zhi has been with us for many seasons, and I've always heard him speak fondly of home. He's very well gifted in jewelry making, as well as producing fascinating colors of dyes for silks. Perhaps if your interest remains, you should write to him for some advice. He's always hoarding gemstones: anything bright and colorful that he can pair with his silks! He's well versed and intelligent, being an imperial, so I can recommend him personally. I don't think he realized he's a plague dragon from birth... but then again, he's been with us since he was a hatchling.

Take your time in finding out who you are, Child. Dabble in different areas, learn to recognize what you enjoy doing. If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. Whatever it is you enjoy, I'm sure it will be useful to the clan. I am a scholar: I keep records of the clan's activities here, and I study the history of our deities and other flights. Those are Sarojin's wishes... I myself enjoy poetry. You'd never believe that the Isles weren't always my home... but that was a time long ago, and much has changed. Your mother has yet to find her calling, but she is still young. She seems to have taken a liking to the playful rhymes and hidden messages in my poems. I think that's why she puts up with me. I believe she could do many things. She's quite the gifted dancer; not on the ground, but in the air. She carried a grace on the wind that I've never seen in another dragon... you are so close to her, perhaps you share that beauty. Take to the skies from time to time. It's a freedom you possess. I find the clouds are the best company for when I need to think.

Oh, your mother slipped out while I was writing. It seems she has returned with a collection of things from some of our clan members. Let's see... Saeyoung is sending you his teardrop pendant. Evidently, it brought him good luck, so he thinks it might do the same for you. According to your mother, he mentioned it reminded him of your beautiful colors. I'm surprised he remembers the hatchlings as much as he does, but he's very close to all of us here. Zhi has offered some of his gemstones for you to play with if you fancy them. Cynrik is sending you a bracelet and pendant he had in his hoard. He also asks if you send his regards to his daughter, Pantheon. Mei claims he acted casual and uninterested, but knowing him he worries about her. He acts tough, but he's a gentle soul. Lastly, an emerald ring... from Adrian? Well, that's a surprise. He normally doesn't dabble with us. Perhaps it is just a good-willed customary attempt at keeping the clans at peace.

I am sending you a tome to read. It's over the history of the Plagemother: perhaps with your new home, it might be interesting to you. Your mother has picked out a pendant as well... oh for the love of the Arcanist, she claims it will bring you the fortune of finding your love... Superstitious nonsense... but know that your mother misses you dearly and she loves you. As do I, sweet Nebula. With that, we shall enclose these gifts to you and wish you well. By our next letter, I'm sure we will have new stories to share.
