SHINKUKO
Born on the 31st of October, Shinkuko himself resembles a blood red moon.
The 'SHINKU'(深紅) in his name means 'crimson', and the 'KO'(子), a more feminine version for 'child'. Together as 'SHINKUKO' it means 'deep red' but a lot of people mistake that that is just a direct, inaccurate translation and Shinkuko's name actually means 'crimson child'.
An orphan picked up on the streets, Shinkuko grew up in a Shinto shrine and is destined to be a Shinto priest, or a 'kannushi', when he grows older. Growing up heavily believing in religion, Shinkuko is heartily devoted to his work. His ability as a priest allows him to detect light spirit presences, but nothing more.
Although it may not look like it, it is actually said that Shinkuko stays close to the shrine only because his soul is chained to it. Because there is no solution to this 'attachment,' Shinkuko has to spend the rest of his days at the shrine, day and night.

Shinkuko's close friend is Shijuu(Shi-jū) whose name(士獣) literally means 'beast'. Despite Shijuu's name, he is actually a shy but evidently caring person who always wears a white kimono with a slightly bright common red for his Otaiko and Tare and a traditional Kagura fox mask to hide his appearance.

Shijuu is almost the same as Shinkuko, but he is attached to the Shinto shrine only because he is a Kami. He claims to be one of Inari Ookami's messengers, which is why he wears a fox mask, and his appearance tells likewise as well. Aside from that, Shinkuko and Shijuu get along really well. Shijuu has been with Shinkuko since the day he was brought to the shrine, which is why Shinkuko is attached to Shijuu. There has been a few fights between them during Shinkuko's turning points in life, but Shijuu always tries to find a way to make up quickly and succeeds most of the time. Without Shijuu, Shinkuko doesn't know where he would be in life now.
