There had been a crack in the earth for years. Rumblings and shifting caused the small crack to widen and deepen, getting longer each day. Out of nowhere, a dragon claws her way to the surface, having been crushed beneath the rocks and debris at the bottom for years. Her hard exterior saved her from certain death. She lay at the edge, looking down. Out of breath and exhausted, she forced herself to look from where she came. This would be the last time she looked down at anything.
She forced herself up after a time, and hobbled away from that crack in the earth. That suffocating, isolating, deadly crack had made her hard, the pressure forced her once soft exterior to a harder, diamond-like shell. She needed that to survive down there. She cleaned the dirt off so she gleamed in the bright sun. She had not seen the sun for a long while, and it stung, but it was a good sting, welcome even.
As she walked away, she would not look back. That crack would not harm her anymore. She liberated herself from that crack, no one knew she was there, no one knew she needed help. She walked for days, and found her home. She walked in like she never left, and was greeted with open arms. They missed her, they did not know she was alive. They did not know the magnitude of the fear and pain she endured those years. But she was safe now. She would make arrangements for that crack to be filled, so others do not endure the same trials as she.
She was home. She will stay.
She will do as she pleases, for she is Saoirse.
