Biography

Constabraille
God-Born
Traits:
Energetic, Joker, Unhinged

God-Born: A classification of beings that are conceived when excess magic from a flight's god, that flows through that god's territory in the form of ley lines, attaches itself to a living host instead of being recycled back into the land. As such, God-Born are often powerful users of magic who are able to tap into and wield the magical energy of their god that normally couldn't be contained within a mortal host. Though common during ancient times when the dragon gods were at war, the God-Born of modern times are fewer and farther between, leaving many to believe the existence of these illegitimate children of the gods to be a myth.

Conceived when excess magic from Lightning territory's ley lines attached to an unborn mortal, Constabraille was never fully accepted within mortal society, even as a child.

When he was born, along with his first breath, Constabraille sent out a surge of electricity that seriously injured the doctor that had been handling him and caused a small power outage in the surrounding area. Although the village's doctor was wary of him after his birth, Constabraille went along to have a normal infancy without any electrical incidents.

Problems arose again however when Constabraille entered his early childhood stages and began expressing himself. Whenever he'd throw a tantrum or get upset, stray bolts would strike the nearest object able to conduct electricity until his parents were able to calm him down. Not users of magic themselves, Constabraille's parents remained patient with him through these times despite hearing from a couple neighbors that they should look into finding a way to subdue Constabraille's growing magic until a time came where he could learn to control it.

Shortly after Constabraille started showing signs of improvement in controlling his magic, war broke out to the west that called for all the village's warriors, including Constabraille's father. The war waged on and on and the fathers of the other children in the village returned home for short visits with their families before returning to the battlefield, but for reasons unknown Constabraille's father never did.

Though his mother continued to raise and comfort him as if nothing was wrong, Constabraille was still left feeling confused and lost in the absence of his father. Still a child unable to understand and communicate the complexity of his emotions, Constabraille found himself drawn to unconventional sources of self stimuli to ease the pressures he felt.

He started with inanimate objects. He practiced focusing the excess amount of lightning magic his body contained into the objects until they would warp, break, or combust. Once it was no longer a challenge to channel his magic where he wanted it, he quickly grew bored of objects and their lack of reaction so he moved on to insects. Watching the insects twitch and squirm before perishing at the hand of his magic brought him a sense of satisfaction; and his desire to experiment on larger creatures gnawed at his morality. At home, Constabraille presented no indication of his ongoing experiments with his magic, and his mother remained none the wiser as to what he was becoming.

As he approached his early teen years, Constabraille was plenty happy keeping to himself, and he wasn't bothered that he hadn't made friends with any of the other children in the village. When one of the older kids whose father had returned from war many times took notice of Constabraille's odder behavior however, Constabraille became the subject of the boy's teasing.

Constabraille paid no mind to the comments on his devilish appearance, or the ones about how the adults of the village secretly loathed him, and he held back saying anything when the boy made note of how Constabraille's father was likely dead since he hadn't returned home for so long. Constabraille kept his mouth shut through all of it, until the boy made the mistake of insulting his mother.

Before he could think about the consequences, Constabraille felt his magic come alive within him, and he unleashed it.

A highly concentrated bolt of electricity fired in an uncontrolled arced beam from the space between his horns, striking one of the boy's legs and knocking him off his feet.

All of Constabraille's nerves sparked and his skull buzzed with residual electricity as he watched the boy clutch at the bloody remnants of his kneecap, screaming in agony, and something inside him came loose.

His lips parted, the corners curled upward, and he laughed.

When the euphoria faded, Constabraille realized what he'd done, but it was far too late to take his actions back. Word spread throughout the village about his 'malicious attack' upon his bully, and the village turned against him. The boy's parents, and the parents of the other children in the village, deemed Constabraille too dangerous and uncontrollable to be allowed near others. Despite being a child, the townsfolk were relentless in their verbal accusations against him, referring to him as a 'demon' and a 'devil'. They were afraid of Constabraille's power, and they rallied against him and his mother, forcing them to leave the village.

On their own, Constabraille and his mother traveled from clan to clan for the remainder of his teen years, never really settling in. His mother kept him close to her at all times, and he knew she secretly feared another incident regarding his magic, but he pretended to be oblivious to her nervous eye.

His mother couldn't always be watchful of him however, and as Constabraille grew, so did his magical abilities, and so did his desire to use them freely. While his mother slept, and during any other opportunity he had, he wandered off in search of entertainment and purpose. Any strangers unfortunate enough to cross paths with him were struck down, and instead of guilt or remorse, Constabraille found himself yearning for a higher level of battle.

He began to seek out ferocious beasts, warriors, and strong magic users in hopes of finding an opponent who could stand their ground against him, but none were able to defeat him. The more he fought, the more his magic was able to evolve, and the more unforgiving he became. Despite not yet discovering someone of equal or greater strength than himself, Constabraille still derived pleasure from fighting, and gauged his fighting experiences based on how much fun he had in the heat of battle.

By delving into his 'hobbies' whenever possible, Constabraille was able to act on his best behavior in his mother's presence, having temporarily calmed the storm inside himself. He was able to keep his secret hidden from her for a little over a year, until their travels brought them to a village that had been turned into a battlefield in the name of the dragon God's war.

A sizable group of Ashfall warriors had set fire to the buildings, killed the village's few fighters, and rounded up the rest with the intention of executing them. Upon spotting Constabraille and his mother they approached, weapons drawn, showing no sense of mercy for those under a different elemental alignment than themselves.

With his mother nearby Constabraille hesitated but for a moment before his hunger for a fight took over and he charged headstrong into the pack of fighters. His impressive speed and agility caught them off guard, and the battle was over almost as quickly as it began.

Satisfied in his victory over numerous opponents that couldn't lay a hand on him, Constabraille returned happily to his mother's side, but confusion blossomed when he realized she was looking at him with tears in her eyes. Reaching up, as Constabraille had long since surpassed her in height, his mother cupped his face in her hands and spoke the thoughts that pained her so.

"You weren't fighting those men, you were playing with them."

Constabraille was left puzzled, but he wasn't given the time to mull over his mother's words as the townspeople he'd unconsciously protected with his actions cautiously called out to him. They thanked him for saving them first and foremost, but continued on to explain that the reason their village had been so unprepared for an attack was because their best fighters had been called to the front lines to the west.

The battle being waged there was unrelenting and many lightning aligned warriors had already lost their lives in the name of their deity. The village pleaded for Constabraille, with his powerful magic, to make the journey west and aid the warriors trapped in a bloodbath that neither side seemed to be winning.

Constabraille had considered joining the war front a few times given his interest in battle, but hadn't gone through with the idea so he could stay close to his mother, though he'd passed the age in which most young adults left the safety of their parent's side a while back. He was prepared to decline the hopeful eyes that gazed at him for that same reason, even though what they spoke of tempted him, when his mother took his hand in hers and spoke. In a voice as soft as the sad, yet understanding, smile on her lips:

"You should go."

Constabraille was momentarily hurt, thinking his mother was casting him out after seeing his true self, but she went on to explain herself and her decision. She started by saying that she was no longer the one taking care of him, but that he'd been taking care of her ever since he'd come of age. As his mother she could tell just how drawn he was to fighting, for sport or otherwise, and she believed that he was gifted with magic for a reason. She wanted what was best for him, as any parent should, and that meant letting him go so he could grow freely and follow his own path.

Taking her words to heart Constabraille accepted his mother's feelings, said his goodbyes to the one person who loved him unconditionally, and set his sights on war.

In the centuries to pass, tales of "The Demon of Lightning" would fade into myth, and then disappear from the history books altogether as the people of the modern age wrote it off to be no more than a tall tale told by the exhausted soldiers who needed an icon to look to during the ancient war of the dragon gods. Constabraille's contribution, and the contribution of the many warriors of all elemental alignments during those times became the distant past, and dragon-kind moved on.

As time progressed, and the last of those who lived during the era of the dragon god's war passed away, Constabraille found himself unchanged. His body remained that of an adult. He did not grow old and return to the earth as others did, but rather he continued to grow stronger in ability and magic the more he used and refined them. He spent many more centuries travelling Sornieth with the sole purpose of finding opponents of increasing skill to challenge until he was overtaken almost completely by his insatiable need for battle.

In the face of present day norms, Con still seeks out activities and encounters that serve to entertain him, but has otherwise adapted well to the many changes introduced to him along the road leading up to the modern age. When not engaged in battle, Con is still a lot to handle. He's constantly in motion and harbors a seemingly unending supply of energy that makes him hard to keep up with. For this reason Con typically wears out anyone he attempts to interact with even though his intentions are, for the most part, of a social nature.

Funfacts:
  • Easily distracted.
  • Goes by the nickname 'Con' in present day, as his full name is no longer one commonly used in the modern era.
  • The amount of electricity he can store in his body is ever growing the more he's able to expand his magical abilities.
  • Con is a speed based fighter. At times he can move as fast as lightning itself.
  • He can draw Lightning magic directly from the ley line. The closer he is to Lightning territory the more he can use.
  • Con accidentally fried his brain a little bit when he used the full power of his magic for the first time as a child, and as a result his mental state and moral compass were thrown off balance.
  • His metabolism is incredibly high because his body burns through food-based energy much quicker than the average mortal. As such, Con's diet is heavily protein based.
