Biography

POEM BY THE LEGENDARY IXRIS
The Long Game, by Ixris wrote:
Gutter little candle
Throw wild shadows
Across the floor
Let them dance
Convulse
And writhe
Before the light is swallowed
And smoke
Fills the air

Whimper little children
And toss wild
In your sleep
And dream of teeth and howling hands
And claws
That snatch and clutch you
Until you long and fail
To wake

Shine merry dagger
Where the light catches
On your edge
And rest
In housewife's hand
And workman's sheathe
And butcher's meaty fist

Let them remember
As you work
That you were made
To part hide
And split flesh

Let them remember
Your weight
And lightless storms
Your warm haft
And bad nights' sleep

And though you may not cut them
Let them bleed

NYX
Shade By Night

The shade fragment, released from prison in an enchanted book by Rhiannon, Princess of Yul, and who spends its existence hunting down every last member of her bloodline that comes after Rhiannon, tormenting her existence before ultimately destroying her.

Nyx is the dark passenger inside of Rajani, the strange alter-ego state and magical entity that possesses her outside of daylight hours- or perhaps is what Nyx becomes, under the light of the Sorneith sun. The two can't seem to remember each other, so the two states of being cannot share the space at the same time. It begs the question- who came first? Who has precedence? If Nyx/Rajani were separated through a magical ritual of cleansing, who would be left?

Nyx is the exact opposite of a genie in a bottle, for she spent her incarceration plotting a detailled, cruel revenge on her captors, so that the first to release her would be the one to recieve her curse. Powerful magics cloak her, but time has taken her eyes, so Nyx is blind- but also invisible. She feels her way through pulses in magic that fill the air of Sornieth, keening higher than normal ears can sense, more like a vampiric bat than like a dragon- and indeed, she only vaguely resembles a fae, the edges of her form constantly fading and solidifying like a shape made out of smoke.

She whispers dark thoughts into the ears of sleeping dragons, slips inside their dreams and implants memories and ideas for which there is no cure. They say something has been poisoning food, giving hatchlings night terrors, and tearing down curse nets, shredding magical barriers in the dead of night. Perhaps she was the one who planted the seed of darkness festering at the heart of their leader Solus, but maybe not all dark things can be explained by evil alone, but simply the darkness that lives in the heart of every mortal, awaiting its chance to take over. Her voice is an echo, a myriad of whispers and far-off laughter, cacophany and muted at the same time, like something heard underwater. Nyx is as good a name as any, and she's claimed it in the brief year of her physical manifestation- night-hunter. Killer of dragons. One who moves in shadow.
Very few in the clan can even sense her, as a cold chill, like an unexplained shiver of someone walking over your grave.
Anathea is the exception- for she has stared into that darkness beyond, the hungry abyss that took everything from her, and knows the shape of it better than anyone. She is wracked by incoherent terror-stricken fits, every moonless night, and most think her mad- but it is because she knows exactly what haunts the edges of Oakheart.
She can see its eyes.

Nyx is the silent, invisible villain, and root of many of my clan’s troubles. She plants ideas in the half-asleep minds of dragons by whispering songs and stories and dreams into their ears, taking advantage of their vulnerable condition to wreak havoc- because there is nothing harder to kill than an idea.
For example- Solus, the bright-clad sun soul knight, has a darkness festering in his heart of unforgiveness and resentment and hunger for greater control over the clan.
Rhiannon’s children are haunted most of all by Nyx, who always seeks to find a way to destroy Rhiannon and her bloodline in the most cruel and drawn-out way possible. Windsinger, the gloom-winged sky dancer with the commanding voice of an angel, is toyed with like a puppet, wracked with nightmares whenever the moon is dark and Nyx’s powers are at their height. Windsinger’s magical blood and curse have made him completely vulnerable and so he is under heavy guard every night, every inch of his nest warded and curse-nets line the ceilings.
Anathea is one of the only dragons who can actually see Nyx, but she is rendered speechless in terror whenever the Shade-dragon passes before her, and unable to warn anyone about it.
Buy Nyx started this haunting with Ciel, a low-grade empath, and an easy target. Nyx filled Ciel’s dreams with runes, pictographs, spells from aeons ago, etched in simple diagrams. Soon, Ciel was idly drawing them with a fingernail in raindrops on the window, sketching what she could remember, even carving them into her windchimes- and with every movement, every brushstroke, every tap of the carving knife slicing the grain of the wood, Nyx grew stronger. Her influence expanded, her powers renewed. The chimes were affected by the spell, enabling Nyx to more easily slip into the warded rooms which dragons unsuspectingly took them. ‘Dreamcatchers’, they called them. Hung them below Galadriel’s curse-nets; inviting things far more sinister to creep into their sleeping minds.
