Semisonic

The first time it happened, we thought it was a fluke. Our home upon the Cloudsong had drifted far over the Frigid Floes. One morning, after many dragons had left for the day's hunting and gathering, a sudden icy blast bore down upon our home. The good news is that same blast of frozen air shifted our balloon back over the Windswept Plateau. The bad news is one nesting dragon mother returned to find her egg frozen in it's nest. No one had thought to check in on it while we were rushing about trying to protect our hoards. Dragon eggs nearly never go cold, a dragon's fire can heat an egg hot enough to keep it toasty all day. We were devastated by the frozen egg, but nonetheless we warmed it back up and kept extra watch over it until finally it hatched. A healthy young dragon emerged, a little late, but seeming perfectly fine. It wasn't until weeks later that we realized he'd never grown. Not one inch. And to this day he's as small as he was on the day he hatched.

It was a strange case to be sure, but it wouldn't be the only time that fate struck a hatchling...
