His paws and snout were covered in soot. Once again, Tempest’s project had decided to backfire on him. The Imperial didn’t want to take another bath and instead sat back from the work table with a heavy sigh. It made him smile however, the stubbornness of his work. There was something satisfying with completing a project that had caused him unnecessary trouble. His green eyes glinted with interest and he reached forwards, picking up a golden gear. When had he placed this upon his desk? It wasn’t apart of his project or he would already have attempted to fit it. Pulling over a light and magnifying glass, he examined it with steady paws. It glimmered with a dull sheen, alluring. “Interesting,” He breathed, noticing someone had scribbled unreadable scripture onto the gear. It felt as if the piece of metal had its own aura to it. It radiated with something, possibly magic? Clutching it close with his paws, Tempest turned in his chair and scanned his messy shop. Maybe he could fit this in one of his older projects, the ones that never worked for him? It felt like he was meant to do that… Standing from his chair, he approached a mechanical humming bird. The bird glinted with chrome colors, it’s ruby eyes glaring into his. No matter what he tried, he could never get it to work. Reluctantly, he opened the hatch on it’s breast. There was a little gap within its metal guts and Tempest slid the gear in like a coin into a coinslot. It clicked into place with ease, like it belonged. Closing the door, he squeezed one of the bird’s feet to turn it on. Nothing happened. He tried again, but the bird remained limp and lifeless in his paws. Sighing with exasperation, he set it back down and went to return to his bench. Suddenly, whirrs and clicks sounded to life, followed by a static-like squeak. The Imperial whirled around, laughing as he watched the hummingbird dance in the air. It tilted its head curiously at its creator, squeaking, before fluttering over. It hovered before his snout and he reached up, gently gathering it within his paws. It ruffled its wings, settling comfortably in the slope of his palm.
