Galen wasn't always a creature of such vibrant magic. He grew up in a rough-and-tumble family that loved and protected him, making sure that whatever he wanted he had. He was admired for his colors and for his astute observational skill, making him one of the best patrol dragons the Haven had.

But during December, on a frosty night that should have brought peace and blessings, Galen came across a half-mad witch of the Starwood Isles, who had blundered to the coast and in her grief for something lost, she cursed him to take the form of one of the trees her home had been among. His limbs turned to silver wood, his wings to crackling magic, and even the best mages of the Order were unable to return him to his normal form.

And yet, when the moon turned full and round, Galen, having grown used to his new form, traveled to the land of the Arcane once more on a journey with his mate Octavia. To his astonishment, his curse receded, returning him to his original form of flesh and scales. In his joy, they laid their first clutch there in the sand. Their firstborn children had the blazing pink eyes of a dragon truly created of magic, and ever since, Galen and his mate return each month to break the enchantment and to celebrate the magic of freedom by creating new life.
