Some questions have no answers. Some do, but are locked away, deep down in the trap that is his mind. Over time things get duller, fading away, and most of the time it’s frightening and dark and lonely. Seconds drag on like hours, every breath rattles and echoes away in the emptiness. But he can bear it. Ignorance is bliss.

The worse days are the ones that are clear, the days when the fog lifts enough that he suddenly remembers, and he knows, and it’s real and terrible and all he can do is try to curl into himself so that he can disappear. Because he knows the answers. He knows too much, things he never should have uncovered, matters better left untouched. He cries out for punishment, for relief. For an ending.

He would rather not remember the price he had paid for his sins. He would rather not remember that what he had found, no matter how great, would never outweigh the burden of what he had lost.
