Ameloren

Ameloren is a young but conflicted Skydancer. In his heart he is fire, he is the warmth of the embers and the blazing light of the flames. He loves anything that's hot, and he is passionate about what he likes. However, on the outside, he is very much so a Water-looking dragon. All shades of blue cloak his body, vibrant and cool. He knows his body doesn't match his eyes, but what does that mean for him? What does that mean to him?

He is insecure, he knows that much. He's worried that others won't like him because of his Flight or because of his colors. He's concerned his genes are flat and plain, that he is not as extravagant or as beautiful as others. He's worried he won't be able to find a mate, or that he'll be sent to serve one of The Eleven, and though he acts happy below the surface he is constantly in turmoil with himself.

Self-doubt lingers in his head, whether it's dominating his thoughts or if it lurks in the back of his mind. Ameloren fears for his future, though he struggles past these thoughts and goes about his duties for the day as best he can.

He has hopes, though. Hopes he'll find a lovely mate, maybe have offspring, and maybe he'll achieve a high rank in a clan. There are times when Ameloren looks at himself and, in an attempt to push past his insecurities, will tell himself that he is handsome, that he is unique and incredible and that he does have worth. And when someone else voices these things to him, it means that much more to him.

Ameloren does his best to help others as well. If he sees a young dragon struggling with an internal battle he sends them gifts or gives them encouragement. He knows that even the smallest gestures mean a lot to the dragons who are insecure because he is one. So, Ameloren pays attention to others, observes their behaviors and quirks and picks out who is most like him, so he can at least be of some help.

There was once a traveler he met. A dragon slightly older than him, looking worn and tired and wise. Being the kind soul that he is, Ameloren offered him some food and a place to rest. Gratefully the traveler accepted, and Ameloren would never forget his words;

"I'm a complete stranger, but you still chose to help me out. Dragons like you are rare in these times. I admire that, I admire you. You're special, keep at it."

Ameloren remembers the swell of pride in his chest at the praise. This stranger didn't care about his looks just as Ameloren didn't mind his. He did the right thing in the moment, and he was recognized for it. Not for his coloring or eyes or appearance at all, just for what was inside his heart. It was a good feeling.

And so Ameloren struggles sometimes, but continues on his journey. He wants to help, and to occasionally be helped, but mostly he wants to find his true passion, his true self, and overcome his self doubt and insecurity.
