ARTEMIS
THE "CLAN LEADER"
__________
36471333.png
▬▬ ABOUT ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

As the clan's leader, Artemis is widely respected for her kindness and patience. Her job is a harsh and busy one; Artemis rarely spends any time to rest and she is constantly traveling between cities to manage affairs. Despite this, she always puts on her brightest smile. Many dragons consider her a respectable leader, praising her abilities despite the fact that she's never lead a group of dragons so large. In fact, her leadership abilities are so well-honed to the point where one has to wonder how she can lead so well without prior experience. Many dragons say it's because of her kindness and fantastic intuition, though those who know better know to look just a little further...

▬▬ ORIGIN ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

In her previous clan, Artemis was a seer who specifically used her abilities for war. She would spend hours hunched over a scrying table, meticulously noting what she saw as her clan's commander worked feverishly to adjust strategies and plan. Her clan's enemies soon learned about her, and her life was constantly targeted as her clan headed into war after war. Sick of constantly being in danger, Artemis stormed out of her clan, never looking back. She vowed to one day find a peaceful clan to live, away from war, no matter how long it took. She would eventually be joined by Arene, and the two searched for their peaceful life together. Unfortunately for the couple, this search would be put to a halt, thanks to a certain someone.

arene
spouse

"He's little cold and aloof, but his unwavering loyalty has been greatly comforting in these harsh times. Even though I took on the burden and left him to be free, he still refuses to leave my side, even working in the shadows to take down The Fallen One. Thank you for always being there for me. I'm sorry we have to live like this, in our fake peace..."

___
adrienne
boss

"As much as I hate her for killing so many dragons so senselessly, I can only recall how I helped her in reviving her burning vengeance. In the end, who is worse? Adrienne for pursing such a violent, awful goal, or me for letting her try and reach it?"

___
haruko

"We meet a lot when I check in on how Neirin is doing. I can't shake the feeling that I've seen her before she moved here, though..."

___
samhain
44880621p.png

"She may be considered royalty, but Samhain is officially the governor of Aster. I really don't like meeting with her, and something tells me that she feels the same. Rumor has it that she's closely involved with Adrienne too..."

___
tyrcia

"On the rare occasion when I can speak to her, I can tell she's incredibly laid back. How someone so carefree can run a city quite well is beyond me, especially since I've heard she doesn't even work most of the time. Tyrcia is polite, though. Our meetings are always pleasant."

___
calypso

"What a strange dragon. He's polite and soft-spoken, but I can't help but feel as if he's confused all the time. It's almost as if he simply woke up in the clan one day and was immediately pushed into his job without knowing what was going on."

▬▬ NOTES ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

» still able to see into the future, but she hates using that power due to the fact that it reminds her greatly of the past.

» has to use a scrying table (like the one you see in the scrying workshop home page) or something similar to be able to use her powers.

» surprisingly strong physically, though mostly because she had to learn self defense in order to protect herself from thieves and assassins.

» knows some basic magic, though it was mostly used for scrying

ENCOUNTER
[ WRITTEN BY ASTRAMARU
]

"Are you sure this is safe?" Arene called out. Artemis looked back at her spouse. Arene was still standing outside, a few feet away from the temple's doorway. His feet were firmly planted on the ground.

"No clue, honestly. I've never been here. To be honest, I wasn't aware that there even was a temple in this part of the Sunbeam Ruins until now," she replied.

"That's what I mean! Why would you go in a random temple that you've never heard of? Light flight scholars are incredibly thorough. They'd stop at almost nothing for new knowledge If this temple somehow managed to evade their discovery, something sinister is going on for sure!" Artemis stopped. Arene had a point. She never really participated in the investigation of the Sunbeam Ruins herself, but she knew how passionate the scholars of her flight tended to be. A temple that went undiscovered for years was indeed unusual, even more so that it seemed to be in pristine condition.

"...well, that's fair," she said slowly. "It's unusual for a piece of the ruins to be so pristine, much less undocumented." The coatl turned around and headed back towards the opening of the temple. Just before she could step out, a massive boom shook the ground. Moments later, rain fell in heavy sheets and lightning flickered in the distance. Artemis immediately shrunk back in the temple and Arene rushed in despite his initial reluctance.

"Curses," Arene spat. "Looks like someone really wants us in here today." He grimaced, looking around the temple with suspicion.

"Looks like we're not going to be able to travel until the storm clears up," Artemis sighed. "Thank the Lightweaver for the shelter. If we hadn't-" Before Artemis could finish her sentence, a massive flash of light suddenly filled the room. The coatls yelped and shut their eyes, ducking their heads down into their hands.

"Thanking the Lightweaver for something she's likely not responsible for? Oh dear, how foolish!" A voice called from deeper within the temple. The two coatls opened up their eyes a sliver. Realizing that the light had vanished, they looked frantically around the room, but there appeared to be no one else besides them.

"Who is there?" Artemis called out. "Are we trespassing onto your property?"

The hidden voice chuckled, their laughter filling the room.

"Oh yes, certainly, but I don't mind. Though if my intuition is correct, you two are looking for something...?" Artemis raised an eyebrow, moving into a combat stance. She was unsure if she could win a fight with... whoever she was talking to, but she was prepared to claw her way out if things got messy.

"I suppose you could say that," she said, hesitantly.

"Oh dear, why the cautious stance?" the voice asked. Artemis' eyes widened in fear. Was she being watched? "Oh well, I suppose I can't blame you. Say, dear travelers, now that you're here, why don't we make a deal?"

"Are you out of your mind?" Arene snapped. "We've literally never met you before! We can't even see you!" There was a pause as the voice thought about what to say next.

"You haven't even heard my deal, travelers," they said.

"Spit it out then," Arene hissed.

"You two are looking for a peaceful clan to live in correct?" Artemis' eyes widened in fear, and Arene's expression turned aggressive. The two had not expressed their wishes to anyone but each other. How did this stranger know of their goals? The voice laughed as if they could see the looks on the coatls' faces.

"My offer is simple: you two start a clan on your own, and I'll give you the protection needed to make it a peaceful clan. Clean and simple. So? Deal or no deal?"

"No. Never," Arene snarled. "Why should we trust you? What are these goals of yours and why do they need to involve us? Why do you even know what we're looking for? Why do you think we should trust you? Hell, we can't even see you-"

Before Arene could finish speaking, there was a mighty boom from the storm, shaking the temple hard enough for a significant amount dust to fall from the ceiling. Artemis cowered on the flower, and Arene's legs shook. They instinctively lowered their wings around Artemis' body.

"Travelers," the voice snapped. Their tone was significantly colder compared to before. "Tell me, deal or no deal? It's a simple question, really! Or do you need a little... encouragement?"

Before the two coatls could respond, Arene was suddenly yanked off the floor by an invisible force. He hung suspended in the air by a foot as he wriggled angrily.

"What the hell?!" he exclaimed. "Hey, let me go!" They continued to swing their claws around wildly, trying desperately to get ahold of the mysterious force. Artemis looked up at him, eyes wide in shock. She opened her mouth to call out to her spouse, but her voice turned into a scream when she saw blood drip down on the floor. A wound that had not been there previously opened itself up on Arene's front arm. He cursed loudly as he realized what happened.

"I'll do it!" Artemis yelled. The moment the words left her mouth, Arene was dropped to the ground, where he landed with a dull thud.

"Deal!" she shouted, as if the strange voice might not have heard her. "But on one condition: I shall found the clan by myself. Leave my spouse out of this. He is not part of the deal." Arene looked at Artemis, his eyes wide in shock. Artemis was never shy, but they never expected her throw herself in possible danger without hesitation. The voice fell silent, considering the offer. Before Arene could say anything, the voice laughed.

"That works," they said. "I can accept that deal if it makes you think you've saved your partner. Very well, we shall start planning the start of your little clan tomorrow. Don't try to run away or do anything funny." As if on cue, the storm outside immediately cleared up. Artemis collapsed, exhausted and shaken up from fear. A million thoughts shot through Arene's head and they desperately wanted to say something, anything, but they could only reach out and grasp her claws in theirs weakly.

In that moment, the couple could not even imagine the fate that would await them in the next few years. They knew nothing of the horror that would follow this unfortunate meeting. They simply lay there, helpless and lost...

There is potential to be found within every dragon, of course, and to bring it out is in itself, an act of beauty. An artifact, ancient in its origin, hums with untold power and whispers in a language never meant to be spoken aloud-- you meddle with that which you do not understand. Where the sunlight illuminates, the lair itself and its inhabitants seems to shine, but some of us know how to hide from the damning truth and the blinding light. When judgement comes, you will understand: nothing is as it seems. Prove your worth. Earn your place. Or else.
