Light crept through the trees; casting light onto the beautiful fields of dew frosted blood-red roses. The ocean glittered blinding rich light and the grass swayed smoothly. Nothing could be heard, but the light chirps of birds, and the soft nearly-nothing snores of the woman who lied in the tall winded grass. Her hands were clenched loosely into fists, and her long coral colored hair draped over a rock like silk. A handsome, lean, young man approached her with confidence. "Darling?" He asked kneeling before her. The beautiful woman opened her eyes slowly and took in the man's presence gradually. She smiled at the sight of him, "Iraulie." He gave her an open mouth smile, "Yes... It's me." He put his hand on her clenched hand.

"Why have you come looking for me pepper?" She sat up and gazed into his deep purple eyes. "I told you to not call me that," he chuckled. "Everyone's already calling you Salsa, may as well spice it up a bit." She had to cover her mouth to not laugh at her own joke. Iraulie shut his eyes and then opened them- his eyes softer than before. "I love you."

"I love you too my spicy pepper!" She brushed back her husband's hair with her finger. "You need a haircut; ask Roxy if she'll do it for you." He flicked his brown hair to the side and gave her a dorkish grin, "you find this hair hot and you know it." Acedia laughed lightly, "I wouldn't have married you if I didn't." She noticed that her husband was being a bit reserved and looking off into the distance, "What are you thinking about Pepper?" He turned to look at her with suddenly saddened eyes. "I'm leaving with Sebastian on a trip to our clan's friend-clan... I will miss the birth of our son." Acedia didn't know how to react. She was saddened, and in pain at the same time.

"That clan?" Iraulie sat up at the sudden change in Acedia's tone. "They have been a great friend of ours for generations, I had only visited them once- and they were quite friendly to us. We laughed and ate good food from the Reedcleft Ascent lands, and yet- they seemed rather peaceful, and not all about war like us. We trade our food, bestiary, and a lot of our dragons that you call your family friends immigrated from their clan!" Acedia wanted to still be angry, but the excitement in her mate's eyes made her feel warmer. "It'll be fun for us to catch up, it has been years since I've been there! Sebastian and I made friends with a few of them, which is why we're traveling together."

"Will you be trading with them?" She asked curiously. "Sort of, we sent a letter out that we'd be coming with gifts and the letters from the dragons from our clan that won't be attending this meeting. We're sort of doing this to catch up with each other- since it has been quite some time since we have made contact. We're probably going to get letters from them to come back here, who knows! maybe you'll get one!" The thought of receiving a letter from a friend clan made her excited about the event. "I'll be sure to tell them about you and our soon-to-be-born son," he added.

A loud roar could be heard in the distance, and Iraulie immediately got to his feet. "Stay here," he warned, "I'm going to find out what is happening." Salsa's fingers grew into talons, his back grew bat-like wings, and soon he was completely dragon. He looked back at Acedia and gave a grunt before flying off. She hadn't noticed it before, but a neatly woven basket was sitting on a rock. It was likely that Iraulie or Opal had woven it; which meant that basket was one of a kind.

There was nothing Acedia wouldn't do for her husband, but curiosity took her over and she just had to look in that beautiful basket. What was held in the basket didn't shock her, but made her rather happy? There were several grape tomatoes, oranges, and carefully sliced cucumbers enveloped in cotton- which indicated that Iraulie was planning a picnic of some sort.

Though she was hungry and she should have eaten the food for her expected child; she held back knowing that her husband would have wanted to share with her. "Pregnant?" A voice sounded from some brambles next to her. There was something about this voice that made Acedia horrified, but a child's voice- mean and dark. She decided not to respond to the eerie voice and looked away; trying to forget that someone may be watching her.

Her fear of the voice didn't subside and she couldn't help but reply to the voice, "Yes." There was a rustle coming from the brambles and a little barefoot popped out, "Come out." She called out. A little boy with shaggy black hair, and pitch black eyes popped out. Acedia practically jumped out of her skin. "I'm lost... I don't know where to go," he croaked. She seemed to get shivers down her spine due to the eeriness of the boy, his pale skin with no scars or markings, and his empty eyes of darkness. "Where do you live? I might be able to point you in the right direction."

"I live in the Driftwood drag," he murmured faintly. "You've trekked all the way from the Shadow region?" Acedia gasped, "why you're long ways away from there boy! You're in the Arcane lands, right on the edge of the Starwood Strand!" The boy looked at the floor abashed. "I knew I was traveling for a long time... But I didn't know I went that far." His voice was still sorely quiet. "Can you help?"

Acedia was hesitant, but she nodded. "I can escort you to the edge of my clan's territory and advise you on the right route," she made sure there was no resistance in her voice. "Thank you..." The boy tugged the collar of his tattered green velvet cloak up to cover his mouth. Giving a quick look in the direction of where her husband had flown off to, she got up and began to lead the boy to the other end of the territory. "You're pregnant," the boy said suddenly. His voice had sounded cracked and young, it sounded as if he hadn't slept or ate in months. "I do happen to be," she smiled faintly- not looking at the boy, not looking into his eyes.

"It's a boy," he said a bit louder in an informing tone. "I do happen to know that as well! We have great healers that can detect the gender of the children we bring." Acedia raised her chin a bit and straightened her posture. If she slouched too much for too long; she'd end up with a really bad backache.

"That must be nice," he whispered, "I am not in a clan." She looked down at the straight-faced boy in pity, but it quickly went away as she noticed how much he was staring blankly into the abyss. She smelled smoke, and she immediately covered her nose. "Get down," she snarled. A fearful expression crossed his face, "Is there a fire?" He asked.

"No," Acedia paused- knowing she was about to dread what she was about to say "We must be getting attacked. Perhaps we can run, and I can get you to the border." She said huskily, "you're pregnant." The boy protested, "I don't want to put that kind of pressure on you." Acedia didn't want to say it to the boy's face, but she'd rather go with him to ensure that he left the territory. "I.. Don't want to do that," she whispered "Sometime's, we must do things we don't want to do. Maybe, you should come back to the place where I live- with me!"

Acedia backed up, "I cannot; I will have a child and a husband to care for." The boy smiled wickedly, "Such a shame that he won't be sticking around in your life for very long." He seethed through gritted teeth. Acedia's eyes grew wide in fright, "What is wrong with him? Is something wrong with my husband?" She demanded. "I wouldn't call him your partner if you knew that he's been creeping around. You will leave, and your son will die." It was all strange to Acedia; the boy looked proud. As if he killed a buck, mounted its horns on a wall, and was showing it to all who could examine.

"What do you mean?" She lamented, "he has always stayed true to me! And my son..." But the young boy was gone. His pale skin and his dead, onyx black eyes had disappeared. Hopefully for the good. Iraulie leaped through a bush, and stopped dead at the sight of Acedia crashing to the floor in pain. "The baby is on it's way isn't it?" He inquired. The color had drained from his face, and his knees began to shake. "Get away from me!" She snarled, "here, here! Come see the traitor witness his son's death!"
