The Lost

An explorer of the darkest and deepest reaches, Cora loves to explore the undiscovered underground lands beneath our feet.

She lost her husband Mabruk to exaltation to the FlameCaller, but knows she that one day she will see him again..for it is the fate of every dragon.

She has now chosen a life away from other dragons of the world as a result of losing her mate; going so far as to dig to the other continents beneath the volcanic core of her own home in the Great Furnace, and taunting her own demise in the treacherous and uninhabitable places.
Her clan hasn't abandoned her, but instead acknowledges her as if she were a departed ancestor, burning incense to a scratching in her likeness on a sacred cave floor deep within Andor's lair.

Lately, under the light of her lantern, she has begun to notice slight changes to her skin from being underground for so long. Under her thin scales was first a crawling sensation, followed by twitching and hardening, and now they are beginning to appear wet.
There has been word in the walls of a new scale disorder, stemming from the gembond plague, called the crystal gene.
Her skin hardens when she whims it; she turns stone-like at her will. Yet when she reaches places around other dragons her disorder takes over, the plague sets in and makes her freeze into a statue. And then she can feel her lungs harden, and her organs slow...
It is a sleep like no other.
Now she is at peace with her fate. Perhaps, she will see her mate again soon..

She had a dream last night. Or maybe she was just frozen again?
It was a dream of a hatchling with crystal scales and flaming eyes.
He appeared to her, and in her departed mate's voice, he told her everything would be ok, and not to be afraid of anything.
When her eyes opened, a little hatchling was sleeping next to her companion emerald cave jewel.

For reasons unknown to her, her disorder did not overtake her in this child's presence.
She turned her lantern curiously towards the baby, only for the light to glimmer back to her eyes, piercing her; the hatchling was crystal-scaled. Its eyes shot open revealing fire bound eyes that burned back into her own. For a moment she felt whole.
The land shook, and trembled as the fire in the walls roared through their souls, the land settling beneath them slowly yet still shaking and warm to the touch.
The hatchling blinked in the light of the lantern and squinted at her, unphased by the harsh living conditions of the inner earth.
"I shall take it into my care and adopt him as my own son", she thought to herself.

Her dearly departed whispered in the dank cave air, "Cora.. now everything will be ok..."
