In the explosion that created the Arcanist, huge amounts of arcane radiation were released. As the land of the isles grew warped, eventually the prolonged exposure to radiation caused very strange reactions from the trees of the isles. They grew twisted and coloured, bearing strangely coloured leaves and fruits. Over years, the trees themselves grew sentient, eventually managing to uproot themselves from the ground, and start to move.

Solitary by nature, they prefer to spend their time alone wandering through the woods in search of sources of magical energy. They rely on it to survive, as without some supply of magical radiation, they lose their ability to move, and revert back to their previous forms as trees. Most Sentinels will even take to adorning themselves with crystal fragments that have been imbued with magical radiation, ensuring that they are never far from a source of energy. These crystals eventually fuse into their skin as permanent additions to their bodies, pulsing with life energy.

From this constant supply of magical energy however, comes a constant desire to move. They rarely sit still, wandering the realm in a constant search for more shards of crystal to add to their being. Nothing short of a massive amount of arcane energy can convince them to take up nest- leading to many deciding to burrow tunnels through the focal point, desiring to be as near as possible to the Arcanist and his magical energy.

It is said you can tell a Sentinel’s age by the number of crystals embedded into its hide- some of the oldest will be nearly completely covered by their collection, with constant small crystals chipping off and being placed into their hoards. 		Subterranean Clover
