Ostium was born on the frigid peaks of the Cloudscrape Crags. He probably would have spent the rest of his life on that isolated mountaintop if it weren’t for a vision, wanderlust, and an unusually grumpy Tundra dragon. Eyodia was hot. The end of summer was approaching, the Starfall Celebration coming to a close but even as the summer ran out so did the Tundra dragon’s patience. The heat that season in the Viridian Labyrinth had been unbearable, and no matter how deep Eyodia dug her burrow to the heat seemed to follow, sticking her thick white fur to her (insert here) robes. Normally the cheerful calm of her mate (Ph) and her beloved hoard of familiars was enough for her to pull through, but not this season. This season was too much. The Tundra crawled out of her burrow and staggered over to Arya, the young healer of the clan. She declared to the young Fae, “You smell like cold.” Her heritage was something Arya had been thinking of when Eyodia had made her declaration, after all Arya had left the Cloudscrape Crags with Awilix as a hatchling, and had no memory of her former home. She loved her new clan, and the family she had formed in Sword Fern, but she wanted to see her birthright at least once before she took over as the head healer of the clan. Wanting to communicate this strong feeling to Awilix, she sought a Skydancer to help translate, enlisting the help of Sytus since Coeus was looking after a batch of hatchlings. Sytus too heralded from the Southern Icefield, and told Arya he would gladly accompany her to the land of ice. Awilix too quickly agreed to the journey, little keeping her in one place after all. As news of the trip spread through the clan more dragons joined them, some ice dragons like Mentha, others for the thrill of adventure like Nayva and Oboro. Gaia was not thrilled with the idea of so many of her clan members departing. Experience had taught her that often travelers did not return, settling in new clans, succumbing to the Beastclans, or exalting themselves to foreign deities. Marbelle appealed to the matriarch, telling her of the wonders of travel, a realm the snapper was very familiar with, and assured her that traveling groups were much safer than lone dragons. Gaia was still undecided when Aether and Geras approached. Aether had received a vision, a new seer had been born in the Cloudscrape Crags, and had the potential to become the seer of Sword Fern. With this new information Marbelle and Geras were able to sway Gaia, and gave the party her blessing to leave. Ostium’s formal training as a seer was brief, almost as soon as he was grown Aether passed over the garbs of a seer, and told the young Imperial to listen for the Goddess. Oneiroi wasn’t even finished painting on his new accent as a seer when Aether exalted himself to the Gladekeeper, and was gone. Geras mentored Ostium through her grief, helping him interpret the scenes his fledgeling powers showed him, as she did with her mate. As Ostium became better at interpreting his visions she stepped back, allowing herself to grieve properly. She still provides guidance when the young seer requires it, but is no longer a full time mentor. |
