Whispers of a beast flooded the tunnels--a virulent rumor, eating its way into superstitious minds and trembling hatchlings' nightmares. Exaggerations bred visions of a great wyrm scaled with ice yet full of fire creeping through the upper levels, a twisted alien from the surface that had ten rows of teeth and a thirst for dragons' blood.

A kernel of truth lays at the heart of the rumor. Frostbite commands this beast, this lumbering and oblivious corpse made in her image and loyal only to her. The beginning had been difficult. Understandably, it had been frantic, in pain, and terrified. It lurched towards her, eyes wild, crashing into her with a thump. It was cold to the touch, yet burning hot. Frostbite could only scream with delight, wailing praises to the Icewarden, thrashing in excitement.

Alarmed, it slithered off of her, crouched low to the ground with huge eyes peering up at its creator. The strange thing in front of her certainly was a dragon and looked like one, but the emptiness in its face was unnerving. It seemed childlike, looking to its mother for direction. Frostbite stepped forward, and placed a hand on its head. It flinched before leaning into her touch, almost affectionate. You are my son. she said hoarsely. You are the first of many. My disciple, you great Acolyte of the Icewarden, you will be greater than these tunnels and stronger than death. Honor your Lord in all things. Frostbite kissed the top of its head.

The thing stalks beside her, now. It smells of death and its crumpled body staggers over uneven ground, and its head lolls back and forth like a demented puppet. Frostbite supposes it is just that as she leads it into the cave where the dead Skydancer and Coatl remain frozen in time. Jagged hoarfrost has crept across their eyes and nostrils, and their slick blood remains a frozen pool on the ground. It burns like fire, and the light that is thrown from the corpses' twisting bodies is reflected in the eyes of things profoundly unholy.
