F i e s
guardian of the rivers

The sands of the Shifting Expanse are salt-licked and dry. In her youth Fies would listen to the stories brought by travellers; of lush jungles and green plains, of deep waters as pure as the crystalline sky. She'd wonder ... and sigh, because nothing like could ever exist in her homeland.

One day her mother and father took her to see the Canyon. They showed her the sediment and fossils which were let behind by the ancient river that had once flowed though the desert. History does not show when or why the river vanished, but no dragon has ever laid eyes on it. Fies had gaped in horror at the toxic wasteland that faced her now.

She decided then that she will chase the rivers of Sornieth. Follow and guard them against nature and dragon-kind alike. Lest all the world becomes like the barren wasteland she calls home.

~ Kapara

Her travels eventually took her to the sun-kissed fields of the Sunbeam Ruins. The golden plains were not quite what she was looking for, but it didn't matter; there was water. She was attracted to the river that wound its way through the southern part of the Lightweaver's domain. It was glorious! Still, the Hewn City was a dangerous place, and she soon found herself cornered by the beasts that lived there.

Luckily, she was found by a patrol team from the Clan of the Harbinger, who saved her from the marauding shadows and brought her to safety. It taught her an important lesson that, if she's going to protect the rivers of Sornieth, then she needed to know how to fight. Luckily, the clan was made of scholar-warriors and they were certainly willing to teach her.

After a month of reading about the lands of Sornieth and practicing her fighting skills, Fies decided it was time to move on. There were other waterways to explore, and she now had the skill to protect them as she ought.

She'd set off into the sky, following the Great River, and as night fell she decided to land for the night. She'd found a small cavern large enough for a family of three and curled in. Screaming awoke her in the twilight hours. Her warrior instincts kicked in and she set off full speed towards the sound. She was brought back to the river with its eerie glow, and as she was about to turn back, caught sight of something, someone, bobbing in the river. She jumped in and swam over to the small hatchling before pulling them out and laying on the shore.

She'd just began examining the small dragon when lights appeared in the near wood, and several groups of dragons appeared carrying torches. It turned out they had come looking for the young dragon. She followed them back to their clan and enjoyed their meal before taking flight and following the river once more.

It is said that all rivers are brought up from the sea by winds and rain, and thus all river run ceaselessly towards home. Fies felt that same urge, when her route grazed the shifting sands and she smelled the electrified air.

She went home.

Past the shadowy herds of desert beasts her clan rose from the dust. Their greeter welcomed her return, and Fies felt welcomed. She told her clanmates about her travels; what she had seen, what she had done. They listened with interest. She was, after all, one of the few travellers who ever returned, and they were glad to see her well.

It was at dinnertime, when the cooks came out to deliver each dragon's ration of water, that Fies realised her duty was far from finished. Though she had preserved many waterways, it'll be a long time till she can restore her homeland.

She left home.

Uh-oh, looks like this determined crusader wandered a little too far from her home lair (Kapara, 223028), and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful!
