Everyone always knew that the light would go out. It was obvious since the very first of Ithildin and her brother's nests hatched; the magic in their line, the very source of their power, was fading with every generation born further from the source.

Erebus was the first to be born with Cold Light. There is none of his ancestor's magic in him, he is a well dug in a land of eternal drought. This made him an outsider even among his own family and eventually drove him out into the wild world and away from those who's love hurt him no matter how gently they tried. Ikol found him wandering the borders between lands and brought Erebus along home, and everyone save Ikol was surprised to see the usually bright Apollymi's smile fall away as he hugged his grand-nephew tightly. Once again the Tower clan had become a place of healing for a lost soul.
