There’s a desert out there, one which was devoured by War.
Fluttering scraps of fabric still hang on the wooden frames there, half covered in the swell of a dune. The long lost banners and the oaths pledged to them all but forgotten amidst the smoke, the grit, and the silence of the wind.
Identity itself is carved into the fine sands, soaked too heavily in crimson to fly in the wind.
The desert breathes, but cannot get air, and neither can many of those who lie still, clinging to life as if it were an oasis in the middle of barren desolation.
They’re inconsolable if you could speak to them - too much has been lost, and it’s too soon. It’s always too soon, and it’s always too late.
Time immemorial, a day left on infinite repeat, as the ghosts relive their final moments till they themselves fade away like the sand.
