Ezra dreamed of nothing more than his life as a Sentry, working hard to reinforce the perimeters of the prison held at the edge of the Reclaimer's Glacier, and bringing down the Shade Creatures and the Banescales.

Until he met her. Sokina was beautiful, sure, but she was also... so at peace. Ezra felt like all of the pieces fell together when he met her, and he understood that more than fulfilling his duty and making his comrades proud, he wanted to be content. He didn't want to constantly be fighting and struggling to be the 'best' while still carrying this unnamed emptiness with him. Sokina didn't have that emptiness. She was anything but empty.

Once the other gaoler's in his sentry caught wind of his budding romance with Sokina, he was given an ultimatum. Sentries do not intermingle with dragons who don't serve the Icewarden, and certainly not ones who abandoned him proudly. He needed to commit to his duties, or he needed to leave. Soft dragons aren't of any use to the Icewarden.

He commited.
But not to them.
