Breath

Is it better to have loved, than to never have loved at all?

Some days Breath knows the answer to this question; it's a resounding yes. He remembers the starlit nights of romance. He remembers the days full of stormy conflict, and he remembers the fuzzy warmth after they had weathered each battle. He remembers, all too clearly, all the moments of his marriage that he loved deeply. The moments he loved as much as Eisle himself.

But on other days, he sees the holes in his life left from his divorce. The emptiness of his house. The little spaces where things used to sit. The bookshelf is half empty now, there now sits a pillow without a pearl on top. There is nobody to fill the other half of the sofa, and he no longer needs as big a kitchen as the one he has. There are types of tea he never drinks that sit in the cabinet, unused, forever. On days when he sees these things, he feels the void of what he has lost all too keenly, a stinging of pain almost as bad as when he got his scars.

He's not sure if he'll ever be okay again; at least not in the way he used to be. Every day is different now. It feels like he's flying in a cloud of fog, unaware if the sky above is full of sun, or full of storm clouds. The only option is to continue onwards; to hope that one day the mist dissipates, and he can finally see ahead again.

Breath has taken up a few new hobbies though - he's been volunteering at the local gardens, to help manage and grow the crops there, and to learn how to cook with them. He has a fondness for the brewing of tea too, though the blends he uses tend to be a little... questionable. There's been a kind Nocturne volunteer named Cocoa he often likes to converse with, and she often brings her energetic sweetheart of a son with her.

Their love gives him a bit of hope that maybe, one day, he can love again too.
