Zona

Everyone loves Zona. She's spunky and funny and kind and strong; she's a warrior and a mother and pretty much the perfect combination of everything. But at the same time very real and present. She's a part of the Krigare, the warriors, along with Histan and Darcy. They trained her, and Histan sees her as a daughter, and Darcy sees her a best friend, and all together they are a very close knit group. Now that she's fully trained, Histan declares she's the strongest out of all of them, and I wouldn't doubt it, honestly. For awhile she was preoccupied with child-rearing, and they were booked up with training for Boba, but now Aiedail can take care of that, and Zona's kid's are grown, and they're back at their original job, which is "farming" for supplies and resources.

She's had three nests with Hoari, the latest resulting in just one egg. Soon after this hatchling, named Lithuania, was born, Zona and Hoari got in a fight. It must have been boiling beneath the surface for awhile. No one (that I know) knows the source of the fight (though Darcy probably does; I haven't felt privileged to ask), but it seems like Zona finally put her foot down, and honestly, it's about time. Hoari was decent I guess. It wasn't like he was a horrible dragon to be around. Very Pearlcatcher though. Very haughty and stuck in his ways and better-than-everyone-else. It wasn't like he'd go right out and say it, but that attitude was always underlining everything. I don't think he respected Zona very much; I witnessed him downplay her several times, with no protest. Knowing Zona away from Hoari, and then seeing her with Hoari, was always a startling contrast. Scarlett and I have both expressed our incomprehension of how or why she put up with this so long. Now he's gone though. After their fight, he stormed off into the night, never to be seen again. Rumors are that Zona was heard crying the next morning, but I've never seen her watching for him. I think it was decided that night that he would never come back.

As such, she was left to raise her child alone. Lithuania is a very sympathetic and highly intelligent child, and it was with proud tears that Zona saw her off to serve the Arcanist. She writes letters back often, and Zona is always very excited to get them. Several of her other children serve with the Arcanist as well, though they don't seem to write back quite so often as her Baby. That's what she always calls her: her Baby. Her first daughter lives in a clan in Lightning and has lots of children and grandchildren; she writes back pretty often too. I think it must be hard for Zona though, dealing with her son Yissak's recent death. I've only been in her lair once, but I saw a small shrine with his picture, a few flowers, and some burned down candles. He was the only child that stayed, and now he too, is gone.

Since Hoari left, Zona and Zebulun have become a pair. They were childhood sweet hearts I guess, and when Hoari left, Zebulun started checking in on Zona to make sure she was all right, and slowly they just started... staying together. I think it's been a good match for both of them. Scarlett says Zebulun has been chasing girls ever since she can remember, out of a constant sense of loneliness and the need to share his life with someone, and now at last he has found a home. Zona has found someone who respects her, is proud of her and her accomplishments, and who laughs when she laughs. They just beam at each other all day long; it's so sweet to see. It's funny how childhood play can come back and mean something later.
