Guardian | Earth | Graduate of Aurature

Gwayth was a finely trained graduate of the Aurature Academy, where dragons of all ages and all magic groups were taught to brew potions, heal, and best of all, how to fight.

Gwayth arrived at the academy at a young age, carrying a small bag of her belongings after a swift goodbye to mother. The pollen scents wafted in her nose, spring blossoms were budding up on flower trees and the sky was clear, as clear as Gwayth’s mind was set to fight. Out of the breeze, a jungle green Veilspun appeared in front of her. “Good morning Gwayth. I am Fibryx, founder of the Aurature Academy.” She led the hatchling into the grounds.

As they entered, Gwayth turned her head and observed the neat surroundings. Towering marble white towers leaned before her, reflecting light in every possible direction, as a spindly clock perched on the tallest tower ticked away. Young students were frolicking under the shade of the trees, while older ones were focussing intently on their professors. “This,” breathed Fibryx, ”This is the Aurature Academy.” Her face illuminated with proudness and she smiled warmly at Gwayth. Gwayth, however, was not easily impressed; she had other intentions.

“Teach me how to fight.” She demanded in a clear voice.

That was the start of Gwayth’s training career. One of her first lessons she had was learning to defend themselves mentally, taught by a bright spiral. Every day, new skills were taught in the packed lessons. By the end of the day, her poor head was spinning and she would find it unable to concentrate. Determined to learn though, Gwayth charged onto her lessons headfirst and absorbed everything into her mind.

Twisting and turning on a windy night in the dormitory, Gwayth looked at the other students - she thought they didn’t seem as tired as her, and wondered if something was wrong. No, she comforted, their magic just isn’t as strong as mine. With that, Gwayth fell into a deep slumber, the night sky watching her, the wind slowly moving on, until at last it faded away.

“Gwayth! Wake up!” A talon gently shocked her awake. As Gwayth blearily opened her eyes and yawned, she noticed the dragon sitting on her bed. She was the mental fighting professor, with pretty bright yellow almond eyes and pink and yellow scales.

“Professor Lavender!” She cried in surprise, jolting out of her bed. “I-I I-“

“Shush, my dear,” Lacender gently said, placing a soothing talon over Gwayth’s own. “Your peers and I were very worried about you after you hadn’t come down for meals and hunting after the Gathering Bell. I’ve noticed you, in my classes, furiously learning everything, not giving yourself rest. You know, Gwayth, maybe it’s time you should try slowing down a bit and relaxing. We wouldn’t want you getting stressed out would we?” Her eyes twinkled, she slid down and left.

Wow, Gwayth thought, a bit dazed. The other students cared about me? Seeing sudden logic in Lavender’s words, Gwayth rethought them again and again in her mind. The next day, she decided to pace herself a bit more and not feverishly copy down or remember everything. She thought maybe she could just take a gentle and easy day, learning the fun way. By the afternoon, she wasn’t a bit tired and even decided to wrestle and play with some of her classmates. Slowly, she was beginning to enjoy her new life at Aurature.

As end of the year rolled around, exams of every fighting technique were held by professors and anxiety levels were high.
“Oh no, I think I got the eliminate method wrong!”
“Should I check again on my notes?”
“What if they throw me out?”
Nervous whispers spread around the first years like wildfire, catching on everyone. Gwayth was deeply disturbed and couldn’t get a wink of sleep before the final test held place in the Gathering Hall the next day. Nonetheless, she performed ‘excellently excellent’ and had ‘exceedingly exceeded the average skills by far’. It was then agreed she should move up a level, to better benefit her magic.

As the years flew by, Gwayth found herself practiced in some of the most advanced Earth magic, and she came to realize, she was loving life at Aurature. As the final year, her fifth year, was about to end, graduation was starting.

The spring flowers bloomed, with soft petals of every color scattering around, creating a beautiful flowerfall. Gwayth inhaled, and was jolted back to when she first came. She remembered the proud look on Fibryx’s face, the towers ticking away, and felt herself sharing the same expression, the same feeling of her time at Aurature. This is my school, the finest training school ever to exist. I love it here.

As she thought so, a familiar voice echoed in her head.

The storm stops, and there is calm.
This is your end of the training at the Aurature Academy, and we wish you good luck to your next adventure, wherever it may be.
