Caiaphas had talent for strange magic since she was a hatchling. Her father was revived from the dead by her mother using black magic rituals, and some of the residual effects of the magic passed on to Caiaphas when she was born.

Rather than emotionally dead like her father, she seemed to be much more sensitive to both emotions and magic energies. She didn't enjoy how intense and dark the magic that her mother used was though, and disagreed with her about how moral certain rituals were.

She left Clan Sun Bear before she was fully grown with Xipilli. It was the only other lair that she knew well, and she had heard that there were many practitioners of magic there. It was disappointing to her to find that the types of magic users in Jötunheimr tended to be either wild witches/witchdoctors, who use rituals similar, but less dark, than her mother, or they were rigid and thorough scientist/magicians, treating magic like something to be categorized and filed away.

Caiaphas made do though, and because of her sensitivity she managed to find hidden laylines in Jötunheimr, which was very useful for all the mages and she was accepted into the Jötunheimr Mage Society quickly. The magic she uses tends to be more about charms and spells, and she is very talented. Her skills in these magic arts are used very well when she helps dragons with emotional distress, and many Jötunheimr residents are glad to see her around.
