Biography

Wraith Hound
x
The Wildclaw stood, head hanging, in the center of the arena. The two Spirals were mere specks on the horizon, knowing that their father always wanted to stay a while longer, even if they were clueless as to what it was. They would never understand, never feel the presence.
The Imperial shifted, making its way down the worn stone steps of the crumbling arena. Energy crackled around it as it smiled, light blue eyes glittering.
"Hello again, fool," it hissed, clicking its tongue. The warrior did not move. His eyes were shut tight against the moonlight bathing the dusty, scratched floor. The raptor-like dragon seemed as if he may fall to the earth like the enemies he had been forced to defeat. "What, don't want to talk?" The shadow cackled, voice rough as claws scraping stone. "Come on, Sandy. Why won't you talk?" It leaned over the short wall that separated the arena from the stands.
"Why can't we just leave yet," the Wildclaw muttered, feathers trembling. He lifted his head, red eyes piercing the midnight darkness like two cold flames.
Thunder roared deep in the shadow's throat. "Because, Sandstone," it spat the dragon's name, "I can't let you leave until I've gotten my revenge."
"What revenge?" Sandstone shrieked, staring deep into the Imperial's ghostly eyes. A new light blazed in their endless cyan depths.
"The horror I was put through years ago!" It shouted, voice booming. It kept growling as it spoke, rumbling the old stone structure. "Long ago I was just like you. I was helping to get rid of the Shade that had infected everything. But back then it was a sport. Long ago there were dragons who watched others try to defeat the menace and there were great beasts that have been long defeated. But there were also many dragons that were killed as well." Lightning seemed to spark around the shadow as it slithered over the wall and slowly crept towards the Wildclaw. "A Featherback charged me years ago and dragged me back behind the bars. I was a strong magic user in my prime and I tried to keep myself alive. But part of the Shade that had infected the beast slipped inside me and I cannot die even if I want to. Since my 'death' the arena was closed down. Dragons rarely come here to train against beasts, more likely against each other. I am stuck as nothing but a shadow. I cannot leave. I cannot die. Now do you understand?" The Imperial was inches away from Sandstone's face, dark bolts of electricity flying off its scales. In the light created by the shadow's piercing eyes the warrior could make out the shape of armor. Bandages. Deep beneath the dark color of its scales and mane he could make out faint yellow lines, a red face, sparkling wings.
"I was something once, Sandstone. That beast is still alive somewhere. If you're still standing, then go and kill it. Then I will let you go," it hissed. "For now, escape to your family. I know you won't be able to face it alone, unless you want to try," the shadow spat, eyes narrowed. It spread its torn wings and vanished.
The Wildclaw looked back at the debris on the floor, all from monsters he wasn't sure were even real. Tentatively, he turned back towards where he could see the Behemoth and took off.
A ghostly howl echoed in his ears, sending a chill down his spine that lasted all night.
