Biography

A radio is a device which receives electromagnetic waves through its antenna, demodulates the received signal, and produces words and music based upon that signal. Radio’s parents were unaware of the nifty, (and currently) newfangled invention. They simply assumed it to be some exotic name. And a neat one at that. A few years later, when radios began to be mass-produced and finally made it to the Ashfall Wastes, they were surprised to find it wasn't precisely what they'd thought it was.

Quite a few dragons have bought Radio a radio since then as a joke. He doesn't mind—the extras are useful for when his current one inadvertently breaks, since he almost constantly has one playing, him singing the lyrics happily along with it. He has a rather nice voice too. Though not quite nice enough for it to be his profession. His lack of ability with any type of instrument encouraged the resignation of that dream long ago.

And with that beloved hobby comes a struggle, however, to follow the proper noise-level protocol his job requires. He's the clan librarian, and tries to maintain a more traditional style. Which includes half-moon spectacles (despite his perfect vision), tasteful decor, plush furniture, lack of technology, and NO TALKING. But unfortunately, does not include singing or music.

He may seem overly strict, too stern, or down-right mean, but Radio is just passionate about his job. Flamecaller forbid you actually dog-ear a page, eat in the library, crack a book’s spine, or return a book late. While fair, Radio’s punishment always comes with a half-hour lecture. He loves books more than his soul itself—as evidenced by his attempt during hatchlinghood to trade his pearl for a romance novel, his horrified mother’s intervention the only reason he still has his pearl today (yet he's still of the opinion he'd rather have had that book).

In this absolute devotion to books Radio has done things some call radical: he has a dehumidifier constantly running in the library, never opens the shades, and keep the temperature at a chilly 50 degrees Fahrenheit. All to make sure the books stay in pristine condition. But biggest thing of all, he's sworn off magic. One little, careless fire spell could decimate his library. So he's taken the no-mag voe and banned any type of magic in the library—better safe than sorry.

His sorting system is rather complex and frankly, somewhat nerdy. It takes into consideration author, title, subject, reading-level, genre, writing-style, the author’s level of expertise, and popularity. The time and tedious effort it took to calculate all this information is sickening to image. Sometimes he stays up all night obsessive-compulsively returning books to their proper spots, exhaustion only abated by his addiction to high-voltage almonds. Which leave him in a rather drunken, caffeine-high like stuper. Asking questions while he's in this condition is not advised, as his advice consists solely of screaming “BOOKS” after a brief period of mumbling.

His favorite genre is romance; cheesy, unrealistic, amazing, or downright awful—he doesn't care. He's a romantic at heart and writes his own novels. While they're not very good—and as of late exclusively star a jewelry-clad mirror and handsome pearlcatcher—he enjoys the hobby. Though he often forgets to carry paper, thus resorting to writing his ideas down on himself with his own, prefered, peach-colored ink.

Radio has a classy, old-fashioned sense of style. The gentlemenly look is complemented by his respectful and chivalrous ways. He has a terrible poker face and gets flustered easily. And is talented at picking up others thoughts and moods.

Back in the day, dragons courted instead of dating. He's always thought that way sounded best, but is willing to go along with whatever his girlfriend, Needle, wants. Even if that means he doesn't get exclusive dating rights to her. Sure, he might be a bit of a push over and it does indeed pain him whenever he sees her with him. But he'd do anything for her. He admires her strength, fortitude, yet also that soft smile that lights up her enter face. Those dainty fingers that gracefully turn page after page, a thoughtful look on her face as she reads.

Whatever she wanted, whatever was best for her, he'd make sure she'd get it. She was special, beautiful, unique. He'd give her the best—what she deserved. Even if that was by giving her up to someone else. But until that day he knew for sure that was the right path, he'd fight for the honor of having her by his side.
