Stellar Matriarch

Odd and maternal. The first of the fallen.



There once was a pair of stars, a larger older star and his tiny sister. She was small and dim, a mere speck compared to the dazzling giants that surrounded her. However, she had something better than size or glow, she was the closest to a little planet. On this planet of hers were a great many creatures, each with a mind of their own. The star was so small that she could see each of them clearly as they went about their days. The more she watched, though, the more she noticed how different their worlds truly were.

You see my little ones, stars are very old and very wise, if you take the time to follow their guidance, but not much happens to them. They grow old, only ever catching glimpses of company if they were born without a sibling. Yes, the heavens are beautiful and filled with wonders beyond your wildest imagination, but the sky is a very lonely place. This little planet though was so full of life and changed every moment! Oh this wondrous little rock that found itself in just the right place at just the right time enamored the little star, more than anything she'd seen in her long life. So she decided she would visit.

Now, you may be saying to yourself that you've never seen a star visit. Well, my tiny novas, it is a very very difficult journey for any star to make. They must fall from the heavens and crash down on to our soil. While they fall, powerful ancient magic take ahold of them, twisting and bending them until they are a dragon, just like you or I. However such a powerful spell comes a cost. In exchange for being able to walk among us they become mortal and if they are harmed while they are here, they shall remain a mortal dragon.

Of course her older wiser brother tried to persuade her not to go, but she did not listen, too caught up in her own curiosity to heed his words. So down out of the sky she fell. Oh, how glad she was to finally walk through forests, full of life, or experience the majesty of the ocean. She spoke to dragon after dragon until her voice was sore. Everything was going exactly as she imagined it ...at first.

One fine day the little star was taking a nice calm stroll through the woods when she felt the strangest sensation shot through her leg. She turned her head and found...

She realized its significance immediately and desperately tried to put it back, but it was too late. The damage was done. She was mortal. As much as she loved her tiny world, it was not her place and she planned eventually to return to her home and brother. Now that she couldn't she was devastated. For weeks she cried to the stars, hoping beyond hope that they could somehow take her back. It is said that the young star eventually made her way into dragon society, found herself a mate, and started her own brood. To this day though, her children still feel an unending longing to return to their starry home.
