PERSONALITY

An eager researcher and teacher, Arteriole brings an energy to his lectures that many hatchlings find more intruiging than intimidating. Always hoping to share with others what he so loves about his chosen arts, he has an infectious way about him and is generally regarded well by his students. Aside from that, however, he is known by his colleagues for getting rather caught up in his research: several classes have had to be covered by colleagues when he's spent too long reading the night before, and several classes cancelled when he developed new spellwork and tried it out in place of an actual class.

For the most part, however, his students don't mind. As they put it, they learn as much from his mistakes as his energetic lessons.

ABOUT

Primarily a teacher and scholar, Arteriole was born to the clan and raised with an interesting perspective on things as a result. The clan's own attitudes shaped him from a young age and while his skills as a Flameseer have long since been surpassed by Belisama, his intricate technical knowledge of the arts of magic is second to none; he often helps to teach hatchlings such things before they leave.

Art's first interest in magic was sparked by the unusual nature of his magic and his mother's - while his mother is Plagueborn and he is Fireborn, both of them have magic heavily tied to blood - Erzsebet's magic is that of the infectiousness of blood while Art's is the warming fire of it. It was these specific unusual permutations that led to Arteriole's earliest research, learning about Arcaneborn runeblights and those like Palus, touched by Light so deeply he cannot see anything but truth, or like Neaphtha, so touched by Light that Darkness is meaningless.

Magic, Arteriole believes, is all about opposites and contrasts, the way in which everything is also something else - fungi are nature as much as they are decay given life, at once life and death, flourishing nature and devouring plague. Blood is water in most part, but also infection, also life, also warmth.

Everything is more than just one thing.

In such a way, he's researched a great deal of magical theory well beyond the limitations of his own Fire-linked magic - and in doing so, found ways to invoke the touch of plague in his bloodline from his mother, the very thing that pulls his magic to his blood. It was likewise in doing so that he, alone of the whole clan, had some grasp of Viria's Runeblight before her departure, and was working to find a solution for it's fluctuations before her departure.

Now, Art will never know if his research would have helped her, but he has it set aside, in case such a situation ever occur again.

Art loves his research, yes. But he loves those around him just as much.

RELATIONSHIPS

Erzsebet | Mother

The one to teach him the curious permutations of magic, Erzsebet's magic - inherited too by Art - is inherently tied to blood. It was this oddity that first sent Art down the path of researching the permutations of magic and thus led him to the technical nature of magic.

Kineore | Quiet Colleague

Deeply interested in the different ways of utilising magic, Kineore loves looking at magic's wide and varied applications, from enchantment to divination, from transfiguration to transport. On occasion, she and Arteriole are known to collaborate on research.

Rubedo | Commotion Colleague

Rubedo, it is generally known, is the dragon most likely to encourage Art's worst tendencies on the research front. An experienced scholar of alchemy, Rubedo is nonetheless held to have some of the worst research tendencies of any dragon in the clan, and his occasionally explosive experiments top even Art's occasional chaos.

Belisama | Prodigy

Art's most beloved student, Belisama long ago surpassed him and while he still calls her a prodigy he no longer claims any part in her teaching. Belle, he says, figured it all out on her own. Belle is more humble, and does respect Art for his teaching skills, and the two have tea on a fortnightly basis.

Atria | Familiar

Atria was not the pet Art ever expected to have - especially given her small size putting her at constant risk from his much larger one - but she is deft and nimble and her curiosity has caused her to follow him into all kinds of places.
