Biography
Of all his siblings, Schema was the one that worried his parents the most. Born with monstrous physical abilities, the young Nocturne could have easily become one of the deadliest assassins in all of Sornieth... if it wasn't for his abysmally poor reflexes. His flight manuverability was akin to that of a Dodo, and he often crashed headfirst into trees. If you examine the sunlit forests of his childhood, you'll note that many a birch tree stands crooked.

His parents were perplexed with how to raise their son. He obviously wasn't cut out for the agile and precise combat training of his Nocturne brethren, but he also couldn't be trained in traditional fighting techniques either. It took a while for his father to figure out a solution - if he couldn't outspeed his opponents, he could outlast them. He put Schema under heavy endurance training and taught him a series of defensive maneuvers. However, they quickly ran into a massive roadblock; his lack of agility meant armour crippled his movement heavily, causing him to become a sitting duck for faster opponents. But his Nocturne build meant that without protection, he couldn't withstand the blows of larger foes. Not to say that he didn't have opponents against which his skillset excelled, but his lack of flexibility made him a very poor soldier.

It should be mentioned that his parents were two highly decorated war officials. They raised their children with the intention of exaltation, with the expectation they would help protect the Sunbeam Ruins. But even as Schema's younger siblings went off to serve under the Lightweaver, he remained behind.

It wasn't his lack of skill that kept him from exaltation - the deities will take any help they can get, even if it's in the form of young hatchlings. And there existed countless roles outside of warrior he could've filled instead. No, he never left for the Lightweaver's ranks because he didn't want to. He was happiest where he was, living with his parents and siblings, occasionally (okay, well often) completely trashing a set of furniture by accident, causing a series of frustrated groans, and every now and again, a slight chuckle. And while any of his older siblings would have been met with serious backlash and shame for choosing a different career path, Schema quickly taught his parents a very valuable lesson.

You can't force someone to be what you want them to be.

Oh, you can try. And you may even succeed. But good parenting isn't forcing a child to conform to your expectations. Good parenting is loving your child, no matter who they are.

By all accounts, Schema is the black sheep of his family. He lacks stable employment, often spending his days doing odd jobs for neighbours and chores around the house. When his younger siblings were around, he used to hunt prey and insects for them to eat, and when they moved out, he looked after his aging parents instead. He hasn't lived up to any of the plans his parents had for him, and that's okay. He decides his own success, not anybody else.

Between his daily routine and his attempts at picking up a hobby (he breaks his calligraphy brush and guitar almost every month), he somehow stumbled his way into a romantic relationship with Amelia. He's not quite sure how he managed it, but his days are much more exciting - and much rosier - ever since she came into his life. She's often quite preoccupied with her schoolwork, and although she makes it a point to set a day aside every week for a date, Schema developed a habit of writing letters to her so they always keep in touch.

Specifically, he's taken to using an enchanted scroll he bought from a travelling wind merchant. It's a carrier bird, scroll case and a letter all in one, and it's even reusable! The convenience of the messenger scroll made him think about how he could apply such technology to his own life. His career would certainly be a lot easier if he didn't have to run around looking for work; instead, people could send in messages to a centralized location, telling him what they needed. As he worked more on the idea, he realized he could go even further, making a mail station/errand board hybrid. Of course, he would have to see about obtaining permits and the necessary equipment, but he had all the free time in the world.

A year after he first started dating Berry (his term of endearment for Amelia), he finally finished his project. A mail office inspired by the Wind Flight right in the Sunbeam Ruins. It was small, but it was completely automated - and best of all, it was free. It swiftly became a fixture of his community. If you needed something done, it would be the first place you went to ask; and if you needed a bit of spare change, it would be the first place you went to look.

There was some talk of spreading these outposts to other corners of the Sunbeam Ruins, but nothing concrete. Schema didn't mind either way. He was satisfied with what he had made.

Story
"I don't get why you're so resistant to the idea, Schema."
