_______ _______ Argyris (AHR-JUR-ris) was never good at being a dragon. Always keeping to himself on the periphery of the clan, he only grows more cantankerous and avoidant by the day. Dragons are too loud, too overstimulating, too competitive, all over the place way too often. Drifting further away from dragon society, Argyris begins wandering deeper into the treacherous ancient woods in his solitude. He’s shocked to cross paths with a Flamescale magi in the dark, damp overgrown ruins of a temple. The perceptive serthis seems to sense their mutual distaste for Dragonkind, taking pity on him for his unfortunate birth. Fine goods are traded and the serthis performs a powerful illusion spell to change Argyris’ face to that of a different kind of beast. Not quite a wolf, not quite a dragon. Dragons find Argyris’ new face disturbing, which pleases him immensely. Instead of being the one who constantly works to avoid others, Argyris finally has the buffer of a disfigured face to drive dragons away from him with very little effort. He’s content with his wretched place in the world, very pleased with himself in fact, until the day he meets Loshi the dappled Dunhoof. |

The notes of a lute and her song reaches him from across a still lake, on a beautifully sunny spring day. He’s enraptured by her gentle arrangement, unaware of his feet moving closer and heart wrenching wide open. Something is different about her, something is special. Something he never expected to ever enter his life so naturally. Loshi has a quiet and gentle demeanor for someone so deeply adventurous and independent. She finds Argyris, and in general Dragonkind, fascinating and maybe amusing- but never scary. Not him. She’s never felt afraid of his imposing features or rigid personality- it’s clear to her that he’s the one who’s scared. She soothes his nerves and eases his heart open to the world, and he emboldens her self-confidence under his devoted protection. They forge a special bond and travel Sornieth together as tight companions, thick as thieves, looking for their place in the world. Despite his resistance and dismay, they edge closer and closer back into the dragon society he had left behind so long ago. He finds himself once again on the periphery of a clan, but this time he has Loshi, and he wants to see the world all over again through her curious eyes. |
