Biography

Nomad | Oracle | Mate and Charge of Bones

Eon was blessed by the Tidelord at hatching, or so his old clanmates told him: like many other water-born dragons, he possessed the gift of future sight. Knowing the intricacies of possible futures afforded him a surety that others in his clan, most of whom were not gifted in this way, could only admire or covet. As they explored the deep waters and shorelines Eon would know, without question or doubt, the precise locations of the best shells and food sources, as well as spots where danger lurked and thus which spots should be avoided. He entered conversations with a sort of distracted disinterest that came with knowing every word before it was uttered. And when he was needed or wanted, if it was convenient to him he would simply appear without summoning, knowing the inevitability of the following interaction or task.

In fact, he was rather a know-it-all, and though he was widely respected for his abilities he was also widely disliked for the way he showed them off so casually and liberally. Yet his sight was not infallible; though Eon rarely acknowledged it, he was unable to see clearly the outcomes of situations where many possible actions could be taken and where participants were indecisive. Predictions could be made, certainly, and often his well-informed predictions would be correct, but there was always a margin of error.

This huge oversight and Eon's overconfidence proved catastrophic. Having predicted a clanmate would confront another, he attempted to beat them to the punch and settle their dispute before it could escalate, as he was wont to do. He had foreseen that this intervention might result in numerous different possibilities, but nothing was clear until he took action, and he expected that the multiple benign futures that could follow were more likely than the few less desirable ones. Immediately after acting he discovered that he was wrong. His misstep resulted in the death of both clanmates after their violent clash. Eon was so wrought with guilt and humbled by the realization of his own fallibility that he fled the clan territory and flew until his wings grew tired and his hunger became unbearable. Then, after resting, he continued to fly, formulating a plan based on the futures he saw.

He came to a halt towards the far south-western reaches of the Windswept Plateau, and there he waited atop a bamboo stalk for several days, resting and eating what he could catch nearby. When a young guardian dragon flew into the area and landed for a brief respite, Eon revealed himself to her and announced that she was right on time. The guardian, Bones, easily identified Eon as her destined charge, and together the two set off, Eon riding atop Bones' broad, strong back.

They have traveled together since, growing closer over time -- as Eon could only hope would occur, since relationship paths are so very difficult to predict. Eon has been honing his gift and learning to better respect it, while Bones has been protecting him from any danger he might be inclined to steer them into based on a prediction.
~

Though he is a bossy know-it-all and oftentimes insufferable for more easily-irritated dragons to be around, Eon tries his best to be compassionate and to work on his less pleasant quirks. He may even allow other dragons to say something without answering "I know" on rare occasion. Progress! Around Bones he tries hardest of all, largely because she will not hesitate to rumble out quips about his attitude and insist that he'll never make any friends that way. (It is exceedingly difficult for him to not respond "I know" to these quips as well.)
