Quote:
It was the story of the Emperor dragons that intrigued him into the field of genetic engineering. The story was told to the young dragons in his clan in order to scare them off the battlefield until they were ready. These behemoths haunted the nightmares of every hatchling in the clan.

Well, every hatchling except Darus.

Darus, instead of being scared, was fascinated. He began researching into the history of the Emperors. Countless nights of his youth took place in his clan's records hall, with his head buried in yet another book discussing how Emperors may have came to be. Many blamed the work of necromancers. The theory that caught his interest, however, was the one claiming the work of genetic engineering.

He was banished from his clan soon after this discovery. They believed him a danger- and they were right. He used this banishment as an excuse to experiment in the fields of genetic engineering. He was an apprentice to many experts, but they would quickly ban him from their labs due to his unorthodox ideas. "Plus," they would say to others after Darus had left their clan, "he was quite mad."

This didn't deter him, and he soon found his way to the Nexus. Interested by his ideas, they gave him his own lab and free reign over his "projects". None knows what all he does in his lab. Secretive in nature, Darus refuses any dragon who asks to be his assistant. However, occasionally some would claim to see monstrosities roaming the island at night. Dragons who were once dead were rumored to be brought back to life and tested on by the mad geneticist. There was other rumors, though. These claimed that Ehrenfest was a successful experiment. Darus vehemently denies this, but everyone still wonders the true nature of what goes on in his lab.
