Biography
She bursts from the depths, awakened from her icy slumber. She penetrates the surface, droplets flying from her fins, her coils rushing by. Gone is darkness! Gone is silence! Gone is the nothing that held her tight for so many eternities!
Light bursts forth into the clearing. Demeter closes her eyes, shaking out her length as the last flecks of water fly away. No longer is the pool beneath her dark and shameless, but clear and cyan, capable of supporting life.
Next, Demeter lets loose a yawn. The clearing shakes. Tree trunks rattle. Buds form on the branches, shaking out into pure purple blossoms. The grass grows long and soft. Curious birds flock into the branches. Could they live here now? Demeter thinks so!
Time for a stretch. Demeter extends one foreleg, and then the other; each wing twitches out; her huge tail uncurls. She is unfurled for only a moment, and then she is back in the air-- grinning, screaming, rushing in a tight circle from sheer exhilaration. Wind rushes by her from the speed. Oh freedom she has forgotten, let it never leave her again!
A cough disturbs her from her rapture. Demeter alights upon the ground, desperate to see what is the matter. An injured imperial lay at her feet. She tilts her head, her joy fading to sorrow as she sees how he hurts.
"Oh, wisest of exiles," she whispers, weaving close to him, "let your light flicker, but never fade; let your wisdom guide this lonely place into a new beginning; let your heart learn from your mistakes; and most of all, let your love live on, and die on a peaceful day far, far from here, in a place where you know you shall be remembered long and remembered well."
Barry gasps. A beam of Arcane magic stitches down his side, pulling him back from death. Determination rushes through his soul. He rises, batting out his long feathered wings, and beholding the changed clearing with awe.
"Let your soul learn peace at last," she murmurs, "and let us both begin again."
