Biography

ACOLYTE
Astronomer
Spirit of the Arcane
Leatherback Sea Turtle
Mirage Puffer Spines

Found in the waning hours of a solar eclipse, Acolyte had always felt a special connection to her element. Even after Snapdragon had taken the hatchling in to be raised as his own, the young child found solace in time spent alone. She was content to spend nights above the high rises of the Reedcleft Ascent, watching the night sky and noting every little change.

Eventually, the young dragon made her first true friend. Noire, an archiver of the clan who kept track of those passing through, found her alone one night and struck up a conversation. Like herself, he was Arcane, and was fascinated by the magic of their element. They'd spend hours theorizing about the arts, the skies, and themselves. Acolyte even wondered if she had fallen in love with him.

But the Tundra's motivations were never so pure. Under the guise of experiment, Noire manipulated the foolish Nocturne into being a sacrifice to his true goals: to turn the Arcane progeny into a vessel for the Shade and bring the all-consuming element back to Sornieth. If it hadn't been for the intervention of Poltergeist, another dragon he had roped into helping, Acolyte would have succumbed to the Shade's influence.

The failed ritual shook the very clan to its core quite literally, and that section of the Reedcleft Ascent was declared uninhabitable afterwards. The clan relocated to the cliffs of the Shifting Expanse in the weeks after.

Today, most residents of the clan vaguely know of what happened, though the details are kept from public eyes. Acolyte's family rarely leaves her alone, and the Nocturne wishes she could hide away from the sympathetic glances of her clanmates. Her recovery's been a shaky one, and she thinks it would be easier if she could just pretend she had been normal from the start.

Lasting Effects: A portion of the Shade still resides in Acolyte, eating away at her magic. She cannot fight or use spells and regularly has to take medicine to enhance what's left. As long as her reserves don't get too low, it's manageable.
On particularly bad days, the Shade manifests in her eyes, and they appear empty and blank as opposed to pink. She has trouble seeing clearly on these days, and usually hides this with a blindfold.

Mother: Flamingo
Father: Snapdragon
Sister: Chatelaine

Other relations
Noire: To this day, Acolyte is distrustful towards most Tundras and even Gaolers. She deflects or breaks down at the mention of the ex-Archiver.
Poltergeist: Though the Guardian is wanted due to her involvement of that day, Acolyte remembers how she physically tanked attacks from Noire to protect her and stop the sacrifice from being completed.
Eidolon and Luminosi: When medicine fails, Acolyte has to accept donor Arcane magic from others to remain stable. Luminosi regularly donates since the first day, and Eidolon helps teach her how to manage what's left.
Quincy and Ospen: Like Poltergeist and Acolyte, Noire had both of them roped into the sacrifice ritual. Quincy, Ospen, and Poltergeist were left to do the dirty work of collecting and prepping and all three are still wanted to this day. Unlike Poltergeist, Quincy and Ospen bailed as soon as the ritual went south.
