The egg was found in darkness and the hatchling within was born in darkness. As the eclipse blocked the sun completely from the sky with only a burning ring around it the hatchling cracked the shell, scratching at it until the crack split wider and broke apart completely. Lightning blue eyes blinked as the baby nocturne scrambled free of her prison and stared around at the outer world.



She saw the bodies of other dragons around her, lying on the ground as if something had overtaken them though there weren't any signs of a battle. Being young and without parents to advise her not to, the hatchling glanced upward at the sky to see the burning ring of what to her seemed like fire around the dark circle in the sky. Her eyes burned and she shrieked before falling back... It was probably the one thing that kept her alive instead of being completely overtaken by the sight as her would have been clanmates had been. Still, it was too late to escape from damage all together and no matter how much the hatchling blinked and rubbed at her eyes there was only darkness to be seen. Darkness and that ring of fire permanently burned into her mind.



It was hard to adjust and the nocturne would have died of starvation and exposure if not for a scavenger from another clan. She was saved by a passing electric nymph and cared for until she was grown enough to travel. It was hard work learning to move around by echo location and feeling alone but it wasn't long before she learned how to glide on the winds, eventually leaving her homeland and going into Plague territory where the two were found by Death Clan and taken in. They already had a blind dragon named Paradox and the two easily got along and shared tips on how to survive while Paradox's mate Codex- despite being mute- helped guide the young nocturne around until she got used to the surroundings.



It wasn't long after being given a new home that the nocturne received an actual name: Zatmeniye. She finally had a home, a family, and a purpose in life. Zatmeniye became the clan's nest cartaker with Zahir. Her blindness was no longer a weakness or a complete curse of the eclipse she had been born in but a gift as well; one granting her understanding and compassion. She had been granted a great gift and proven worthy of it through her will to survive despite the challenges and loss of her true family. She was a gift from the eclipse and Stormcatcher and had found her rightful place in Death Clan as one of their nest caretakers.



While her old friends are no longer in the clan, Zatmeniye still gets around and takes care of the hatchlings just fine. She often finds it amusing how the young dragons think they can get away with things due to her blindness; they don't realize her echolocation skill allows her to track them as easily as a dragon's normal vision might. Some nocturne dragons find it odd at first due to her being unnatural to their species- in that she doesn't mimic other dragons due to being unable to see them- but even they have learned to trust her with their hatchlings; some have even picked up on her navigation technique, which has in turn created various uses for them later in life.
