Sol despised his job. As a low ranking guard, in a high ranked Light clan, he knew his story was destined to be a sour one. His status was upheld by the fact he was by technicality an outsider despite being raised in the clan. His parents were killed in a scuffle with the clan over hired thievery, and apparently they found him hidden not too far away from the scene. Their law decreed no hatchling was to be harmed, and as such he was taken in promptly. The queen though merciful could not control her son's rise in power among her ranks. He was devastated after his mother named a different dragon her successor. Tradition decreed that the eldest child of the current monarch was to lead in the death of the current monarch, but the queen decreed her only son unable to make a capable leader. Enraged by this choice, her son planned a coup, and killed both his mother and her appointed successor.

A cultural shift occured by the time Sol was old enough to fly. The clan became focused on power and status. His status as a thief's son on top of his outsider status gave him little chance to climb their social ladder. To top it off, their new king was childish, and relied on the more capable, though just as cruel advisers. Sol and the lowest ranked dragons were treated like scum, and Sol, a young newcomer became deeply vindictive throughout it all.

His only solace were the Veilspuns that came to visit. Some time before he was born, the clan's queen saved a Veilspun who had somehow found herself lost after a failed venture through some sort of portal.
