Kyrkogrim
The Church Grim The Scandinavian church grim is also known as the Kyrkogrim (Swedish) and Kirkegrim (Danish) and likewise defined as the protective revenant of an animal buried alive in the church foundation. It dwells in the churchtower or some other place of concealment, or wanders the grounds at night, and is tasked with protecting the sacred building. It keeps order in the church and punishes those who perpetrate scandals. It is said that the first founders of Christian churches would bury a lamb ("church-lamb") under the altar. When a person enters the church when services are not being held, he may see the lamb, and if it appears in the graveyard (especially to the gravedigger) then it portends the death of a child. The lamb is meant to represent Christ (the Lamb of God) as the sacred cornerstone of the church, imparting security and longevity to the physical edifice and congregation. Other animals used to create the church grim included a boar, pig and horse. A grave-sow (or "graysow"), the ghost of a sow that was buried alive, was often seen in the streets of Kroskjoberg where it was regarded as an omen of death. There are tales of the Danish Kirkegrim and its battles with the Strand-varsler that tried to enter the churchyard. Strand-varsler are the spirits of those who die at sea, are washed up on the shore, and remain unburied. |
Kyrkogrim has very little memory before the church. It was as if one moment was darkness and the other the church. He was always there. Listening to the prayers of the patrons silently, even though they never saw him. He was merely a spirit, made to protect the church, it’s grounds, the patrons and their dead. It was instinct for him. Rarely, he’d be seen. A black dog wondering the grounds during the night, within the mist. Sometimes they’ll see his ghostly form, as a shadow moving within their peripheral vision. He remembers the name he was given; Kyrkogrim, that he was the church’s guardian and yet he was feared. To not be spoken of in case of the bad omens. It was during the time he met Hollow. A lovely female, the most beautiful he has ever seen and yet she’d never venture upon the grounds. Just the outskirts. He grew curious and approached her. To his surprise, she smiled at him. He turned around for surely she was looking at someone behind him...no one sees him head on and yet, no one was behind him. His gaze returned to her, she winked and turned to walk away, revealing a hole in her back, similar to a tree hollow, and flick of a fox’s tail. She disappeared before he could reach her. She would constantly appear to him, it was nice to have someone to finally hold a conversation with, even if it was along the borders of his grounds. She took to calling him Church, which he didn’t mind. It was nice to not feel alone. That is until one dark moonless night. While patrolling the grounds, he spotted a cloaked figure entering his domain. Patrons don’t usually come to the church at night in fear of him. He decided to follow, quickening his pace when he smelled blood. There were strange marking on his door and he went in, the figure was doing something in front of the alter. He thought they were injured, seeking shelter for the night. That is until they sharply turned towards him, their eyes glowed unnaturally, a Cheshire grin wide upon their face. “My, my, a little Church Grim. Come to play?” Kyrkogrim felt a shiver roll down his spine. The figure moved towards him, their power pulsed strongly around him. He wasn’t sure what they were but they should not be on his grounds. As they circled, it was then he noticed what they were doing. Upon the steps in from of the alter, lied the mutilated remains of a child. Kyrkogrim froze...he has heard the whispers. Hollow has warned him that something dark was coming and it frightened her. Even Backahasten and Nattravnen have voiced their concerns. Kyrkogrim snarled at this monster as they cackled. His form shifted to that of a large black dog and attacked the Child Eater. Sadly, their powers were stronger than his. While he was able to fight them off his land, he fell unconscious. When he finally came to, his church was in ruins. He stared at the disarray of the interior of his church. How did he get here? He got up quickly and inspected his surroundings, with no idea how long he slept, he was shocked to see Hollow within his church. He guessed, his lands no longer contained their holy powers and yet he was still bound to remain. It took him a while to come to terms with how quickly the Child Eater was able to destroy his home. Hollow informed him that when the patrons found the child the next morning, fear wrecked them. Children were going missing, a pandemic of paranoia spread through the town and as if overnight, witches were being burned, neighbors turned against each other. It was chaos until many years later, a Witchborne came to cleanse the area and disposed of the Child Eater. Kyrkogrim was grateful of Hollow’s information and her constant company as he tried to clean his Ruins. It was then he decided to gather a group of spirits like himself, to work together as protectors. Guardians of the town that resides near his territory; the Gemini Clan as Hollow told him. It was during one of his peaceful mornings tending to the cemetery gardens, he saw his first patron in many moons since he reawakened. A slender dark male, seemingly just wondering around. Kyrkogrim once again found himself surprised when the young male looked towards him. Kyrkogrim wasn’t sure what to think when the male walked towards him; he felt his hair stand along his neck as the dark memories flooded back to him. “Hello, are you the guardian here?” Kyrkogrim stood up tall before speaking; “I am. You may call me Kyrkogrim or Kirkland. What business do you have here? As you can see, it is but ruins now.” The young male smiled sadly, “My name is Lorien and I am a Witchborne. I have come to investigate what happened here many years ago.” Kyrkogrim frowned, “That mess has been cleansed already when I reawakened. I couldn’t have that poor creature improperly buried on my grounds.” Lorien sadly smiled, “I promise, I have not come to disturb your realm, just to further cleanse it from the Child Eater’s energy. In hopes to bring you more peace,” |

Zahira's Fortunes And Prophecies..
Zahira walked around the scying bowl with a soft hiss as her wings fluttered and twitched like that of a injured butterfly
"you wish to know what has happened to your..temple is it?"
as she paced around the scrying bowl she picked up handfuls of ancient Cairn dirt and placed it into the basin.. the ridgeback's many eyes blinking intangibly as she thought.. straggling up as she scraped at the rock to the tomb's cieling pulling out a small glowing runestone of shadow and placing it into the rusty scrying bowl and covering it with hand as the bright purple glow dimmed..and the sand became black like ash..and began to slowly spin around..the ridgeback picked up the bowl and gave it a few gentle tosses creating smoke that twirled into the air
"fire and shadow.. a cult..a subterfuge..an ancient mission..omens and whispers fill my ears and tormented spirits gouge out the eyes of the beholder.."
the ridgeback looked up and looked to Church's mate and then back to the bowl..sifting the sand as the smoke and purple embers began to form some kind of magical illusion for them both to witness
"A memory once long lost..a grim reminder..full of secrets..seek the tome..pilfer the ashes and seal the gates of Anung Un Rama..that is all I can tell you.."
the ridgeback inhales sharply as her lungs rasped.. she backpedaled back into the darkness and layed against the stony wall crossing her arms over her chest and seemingly falling into some sort of hibernation after servicing the two dragons
"Leaaaaave...myyyy...tooomb..." was the last words she spoke as the torches around her crypt blew out by an ominous wind..
