Biography
Why would she like dragons, they’ve done nothing for her. Beasts, however, they are different. She was abandoned by her parents in the crystal pools and was left for dead. There a very generous group of harpies found her in the water, her feathers already beginning to turn to crystal in the mineral rich waters, and raised her as their own. She learned how to fly with the harpies and she spoke her first words in the harpy’s tongue. She learned and trained in different locations with the harpies by her side. She became a warrior with them and lived her life with her flock.
Not all things can be easy, especially inter-species families. Being a not-so-small hatchling; she required more food than any other harpy in the flock and it showed. After she matured she took thrice the amount of insects than any harpy. She attempted to curb her eating by fasting for her flock who would only react with nonchalance. Harpies are warriors who believed in strong self discipline and restraint, but one of the warriors began to feel pity for her. Diana was once the small dragon that could only look at her with stars in her eyes. The clan knew that despite the differences, they all loved her dearly. Some of the stronger warriors led her to more difficult but plentiful hunting grounds that weren't strictly within the flock's territory. The additional warriors proved to be unnecessary though, Diana was an adult dragon. Her size and innate command over lighting (in addition to her fierce harpy warrior training) made it so that all her loved ones could feast for weeks after her successful hunts. Of course, she couldn’t protect herself from politics. All the alliances that flock had before invading the neutral hunting grounds were gone. No one wished to trade with them, and their own supply diminished without the support from other beast clans. Famine broke out soon after and with no other choice left Diana knew her duty to her flock was more important than anything. She understood that she was a dragon by birth, and that technically she could join any dragon clan that would take her. With that was more dragons to provide food and aid to her beloved flock, and steps towards beast clan diplomacy. She knew very little of the draconian deities and elements that they represent. She wandered for a time looking for both a suitable location and a lair big enough to accommodate her flock. Her native element of lightning seemed fair too dangerous to be able to be reasoned with, and plague was infamously tainted in what food was available. Water was unideal for the harpies for without proper water magic, it would be hard to get in touch with the dragon clans found there. She considered wind for the great advantages that the gentle breeze brought, but seeing the carefree attitude of the dragons there made her think twice. After much deliberation, she chose Light as the ideal spot for her flock to settle with the mild weather and generally safe ruins that still house numerous prey. She pre-assessed every lair that she could from the shadows and judged them accordingly. However, one stood out to her. Not for their wealth or abundance, she found that dragons that made their home in Light aren't as easily swayed by such things but more with 'absolute truth' and 'academia'. No, what stood out to her was an event with a young dragon. A beast, though she doesn't remember of which clan, was severely injured and many had chose to ignore it as it called out in hoarse pleads to its clan-mates that left it to die. Before she could act another dragon, one that looked very similar to her in build, descended from the skies and landed softly next to the creature. The dragon took off her own headband and wrapped the dying beast in it. She sat next to it and whispered calming words that Diana couldn't decipher. Diana watched for hours as this dragon had extended her claw to help the wounded beast, comforting it to its dying breath. When the last breath was drawn, the young dragon closed the beast's eyes and swaddled it in her arms. Not long after, there was a burial though the earth was not marked with anything more than a simple wooden post with the very bandana that the beast spent its final hours curled in nailed to it like a flag. This moved Diana, her decision was made. Dolly, as it turns out, knew of Diana's presence the whole time. Though they did not share a language, there was a very soft glimmer in Dolly's eyes that made Diana at ease. Dolly led her back to her lair, and Diana was happy to follow. What followed also surprised Diana, as Dolly began speaking to her in very choppy but passable harpese. Ever since she joined the clan, and had to interact with other dragons, they found her very unlikeable. She speaks curtly, acts guarded, and seems snippy to anything even slightly Draconic. She has a thick accent from only just learning common Draconic, and can barely even understand the language of coatls. Very few in the clan have made an effort to learn any of the language of the Harpies, and those who do still are met with abrupt and cold responses despite their effort to get to know her. She trusts no dragon besides Dolly, and responds cooly with all others. Soliel and Star have had heated debates in front of her if this shows anything about the nature of dragonkind, and whether or not she should even be counted as a dragon. It does seem like she is more harpy than dragon. |
