Hatched during a solar eclipse, his parents looked on him and his siblings with great pride. The omens were good. This would be a nest of great hunters.

"Now compare that to the guide book" his mother said.Eclipse studied the grouse basilisk in question. He quietly opened the guide and studied the carefully rendered sketches within. He looked back at the basilisk. "The feathers have a different structure." She nodded. "They do. And they're irregularly dark, as though they've been splashed." Once it was pointed out, he saw the markings on the feathers were indeed overlaid with an unusual dark mottling. He tried to make sense of the whorls, saw mouths and reaching tendrils, tried to shake it off as his imagination but once he saw it, he could not un-see it. Shrinking down into the undergrowth as much as possible, he tried to hide from the shade-touched thing. "Now what?" "It's not Shade, but we kill it so it can't spread the taint. Then we go get the clan and together find the source. Strength in numbers." There was already magic gathering in her clawtips. He knew what she would do next. She would freeze it, and when they others came, they would purify the corpse with fire. He stayed out of her way as the air temperature noticeably dropped. When she released her attack, snowflakes briefly dazzled the air. The basilisk never stood a chance.

Eclipse was raised in the traditions of his parents: to be a Shade Hunter. They hold allegiance to no clan, call no land home. He is called to where the Shade dwells, and if needed, will lay down his life in defense of dragon kind.As strict as this code seems, he finds great comfort in it. While others squabble over territory lines and flight, he knows all dragons are his kin. He knows his purpose, and whenever doubt is cast, he can fall back on his creed for guidance. Quote:
