ABOUT.
Knowledge is boundless, empowering, and incomparable. What is physical strength without cunning? Fools only fight with their claws. Wars have been won through strategy alone; be it as it may, it must have been fate that he was born with a weak, frail body and wings that could barely lift him off the ground.

It mattered not.

When he was hatched, his parents were clever enough to instil the importance of learning in him. While his sisters romped about and trained under the blistering sun, he stayed in the cool quiet of the library, absorbing information from ancient tomes and manuscripts. He did not grow jealous of his healthy siblings, rather, he found comfort in knowing that he could, if need be, outsmart one as easily as the other. It was not long before he’d devoured the contents of the entire library.

It wasn’t enough. His hunger for knowledge and magic eventually led to him wandering the black market alone, and the subsequent purchase of several texts and scrolls from a rather shady merchant who went by the name of Asmodeus. The clan wasn’t aware of his dealings—needless to say, while some have noted the improvement in his magical prowess, most are still oblivious to his crimes—and ignored his eventual decision to bring Asmodeus into the clan. Veda, his mother, welcome Asmodeus’s presence, on the condition that he was taken as Asmodeus’s disciple in his hunt for more artefacts.

Blood magic, necromancy, possession, you name it, he’s likely already done and mastered it.

When anything goes catastrophically wrong in any of his experiments, his father, Searlus, and his sister, Reeve, are called upon to help him sort the mess out. Reeve, especially, is frighteningly efficient in getting rid of evidence, especially if the evidence in question is a dragon’s dead body. He does not notice his sister’s odd behaviour, so caught up as he is in his studies, and neither troubles the other; his younger sister does, however, bring food to him when he forgets about dinner, which happens worryingly often.

And Asmodeus more than takes care of his needs when it is required, bringing in live subjects and more books on forbidden magic when called upon. The imperial is a wonderful, albeit quiet, teacher, and his rate is one of the steepest in the Sunbeam Ruins. But the artefacts retrieved are sometimes more than worth the value and the complaint.

(He’d rather slit a dragon’s throat—that’s where the brutal nature tells of his family—than tell a soul, but his heartbeat quickens when Asmodeus enters his room and he tends to be a little clumsier when he knows that the imperial is watching. Once, he’d accidentally blown up half his lab in an attempt to demonstrate a new theory to Asmodeus. It had gone horribly wrong and he couldn’t look Asmodeus in the eye for a few days. Of course, he understands perfectly well that Asmodeus is only in it for the treasure, so for now, he will bury his nose in another book and hope that these feelings will, given time, leave.)

His command of magic, both forbidden and lawful, is impressive indeed. Of course, a few mishaps (wrongly-timed explosions, unintentional explosions, he’s made all the mistakes that a scholar of his calibre will make, and much, much more) have occurred along the way, but nothing has deterred him in this pursuit of knowledge.

And a dragon with power and no purpose can be a dangerous one indeed.
