 Abandoned when they were barely older than a hatchling Hearthmaw has spent much of their young life fighting and doing all that she could to survive. Throughout their years of struggling, they became a ruthless warrior felling all those who dared try to destroy them. However, all these years of fighting had a cost. In a particularly bad fight, Hearthmaw emerged victorious but irrevocably damaged. The wounds they received were practically lethal and a severe laceration to their throat rendered them mute. Hearthmaw eventually succumbed to their wounds only to be surprised when they woke up with their wounds treated and in the most comfort they had been in a long time.

Seryoga the scout of the clan had found them on one of their scouting missions and had brought them back to have their wounds treated. Shocked by this unlikely kindness Hearthmaw soon vowed to protect the clan as payment for their kindness. However, with the clan's peaceful nature Hearthmaw soon found themself with excess time and nothing to do. To pass the time Hearthmaw took up blacksmithing and soon grew to adore it. From blacksmithing, Hearthmaw grew to learning all other sorts of smithing and practicing it to an almost obsessive degree. Today it is rare to find Hearthmaw away from their work the only time they are ever really seen away from the kilns is when they are eating or sleeping, or are taking a request from one of their clanmates.

 Hearthmaw has two familiars. A Spirit of fire and a phoenix. They aid her in communicating with the rest of the clan through written messages they carry. They also provide Hearthmaw company when not delivering their messages and stick close to them at all times. In addition to helping them with messages, they Bring Hearthmaw materials for their craft.
