Ancient stories tell the tale of five eggs that rested in the divine nest of the God Austaras; each of them completely different from the next. The first egg was decorated with beautiful blue and white spots that were laced with the deepest azure. The egg was cold to the touch and as the chick inside grew, ice enveloped the egg in a protective barrier. Many feared the chick had passed and would not hatch, but on a cold winters day the egg suddenly cracked open and released a gust of cold wind that chilled the very bones of the people. Within the egg a tiny dragon stirred, desperate to find its freedom from its prison of a shell; and after only a short time, Siaurys made herself known to the world.

She was breathtaking. Her hide was covered in short soft fur the colour of freshly fallen snow and her wings created the illusion of ice floating on freezing waters. Droplets of water in the air freeze instantly and drift around her body and sparkle in an eternal wintery dance and ice would encase each blade of grass beneath her with each step the young dragon took.

Siaurys ventured to the Northernmost reaches of the new world which would create a land of pure snow and ice. The lands were harsh and ruthless and any traveller ill-prepared would be encased in a thick grave of Ice. These conditions did not bother Siaurys in the least of course; she was an incarnation of snow itself and this landscape was her creation, her paradise.

Siaurys was named the Goddess of the North Wind by her father and with that title she bestowed the new world with her winds. Once each year Siaurys' winds would drift around the world and cover the it in a soft blanket of snow to prepare the lands for the birth of new life. And so, Winter was born.
